ibsp Fishing Report 2025

Capt Ryan from the San Diego from their 3/4 day trip as Capt Tarro to report they caught 82 Yellowtail for the day. If your headed down south make sure to bring all your Yellowtail gear, bring a flyline rig, yoyo rig and a surface iron rig. As of right now we have a small load for tomorrow and we are are go, so come on down and get in on this action.

Polaris Supreme Report 07-26-2016 Hello everyone Today we really put the nose to the grind stone and had to work at these yellowtail. There are big fish around but they are proving to be very difficult to catch. Today we had 3 obstacles: slack current in the morning, hundreds of veracious baby yellowtail, and the famed sea lion. These mammals proved to be the toughest bout we encountered when it came to landing big fish. Many of the better quality yellowtail were lost to the sea lions including an absolute standout monster that would have went over 40 pounds. We were able to boat the fish, but not after the taxman left his mark on the portion of the belly. That aside we made out with a nice catch for the day, everyone was able to put tags on plenty of fish. It was a truly action filled day, full of hundreds of releases and hard fought battles with the sea lions with hard won success in the end. Especially our dark bite that went off right at dinner. That was all beautiful quality fish and no sea lions they were already on land sleeping. Hopefully tomorrow will be at least as good with a little less action on the sea lions .  Good evening folks. So today was a rather tough day of fishing. The weather certainly didn't cooperate with us for the entire day. Mixed up choppy seas with a little better than 15 knots of wind. As we all know that makes for less than ideal fishing conditions, but the guys still hung in there and when it came time to stop on a breezer, meter mark or a nice size kelp patty, then still got out and got their lines wet so bravo to them.  We still managed to scratch up a few yellowfin throughout the day with a couple tuna right at Sundown to take us into wine tasting and dinner. They always say that a tough day of fishing can be cured by a great meal and that was sure the case today. Chef David certainly out did himself once again with a beautiful fillet mignon and king crab leg meal for us tonight. That put some smiles on some faces without a doubt. But that's trhe great thing about this group, they aren't out here just to fish, they love to enjoy the full experience.  To wrap up the night, we dished out probably the tallest "decadent" chocolate cake a la mode that I've ever seen! Wow! That sent them to bed with full bellies and a nice ride up to tomorrows tuna grounds for round 2 of tuna fishing. Wish us luck and check back in tomorrow for the days run down.

 P.S. The entire group here would like to send a huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs. Taylor Gledhill as they welcomed their healthy 7lb 17oz 19.5 inch baby girl into the world today at 4:20. Polaris Supreme Trip Update 08-02-2019 We did not do any fishing today, strictly a travel day. We woke up well south of the yellowtail Dorado kelp patty zone for the local fleet. Whether traveling down is great this morning. I would not want to be going the other way it looks down right crappy. The boys just rig tackle chowed down on some great food by Roger and did some serious napping. Oh yeah and there was quite the poker game. We will be fishing tomorrow and hopefully have some great reports. The Polaris supreme crew!

The Pacifica returned from a 2-Day 976-Tuna sponsored trip.

With great anticipation of a light load aboard the Apollo, all 14 of us anglers showed up at the dock early, swapping stories about past trips. We started boarding about 9:30pm and were greeted by Capt JJ Gerritsen and the rest of his crew, we signed in and had a seat for our safety briefing. Capt JJ then asked if we wanted to head offshore for Albacore which had dramatically slowed down the last couple days or head south along the coast for a shot at Dorado and Yellowfin and Yellowtail patty hopping. Without much hesitation we decided to head south and patty hop. We got the feathers in at gray light and started the troll, within 15 minutes the yell of "Hook-up" sang out, unfortunately the mystery fish got away and we were under way again. Five minutes later we heard that yell again, the mystery fish won round two and will live another day. Third time's a charm didn't hold true for us, our third hook-up is still out there in the deep blue. At that point the first troll rotation was fired (which included me) and the second shift took over. Within 10 minutes they had our first fish on the deck, a skipjack, from that point on while looking for patties we boated about 19 skipjack. We found our first patty around 10am and moved in with hopes of a wide open bite, but to our dismay there was nobody home. That held true for the next 8 patties we found, then finally around noon with a mouth full of burger, we heard the call to get ready. Never fails every time your food is done, it's time to drop a line. As soon as our sardines hit the water the patty expolded, we ended up with 1 Dorado and 2 Yellowtail. We only found two two more patties holding fish and ended up with 1 more Dorado and 4 yellowtail. It was now time to head back to port and we again set out the troll lines and managed to pick up 7 Yellowfin Tuna on the way back in. Hi friends. Not too much to inform you all about today. Arriving to the shipyard this morning at 0700 hours, we wiped down the outside/inside of the boat with a mixture of ammonia and water and once dried, we wiped off the remaining dust with some tack rags and that was our final chore of our shortened day. Jesus got down to business with his roller and his brush and we'll know how it went tomorrow morning. Rumor has it, we'll be hand-sanding the entire boat tomorrow with a very light-grit sandpaper and then, the final coat will be applied and hopefully, that will be the last of it. We'll see how things end up tomorrow and we'll report back to you tomorrow. Be on the lookout for some photos in the next few days. Take care

We departed today on Bob Vance's annual five day. After we picked up a cruddy load of bait we dined on a delicious pork tenderloin for lunch and headed for the albacore grounds. This is a great group of anglers. Many have been on this trip with Bob for years. We are really looking forward to some good fishing. Weather is still good. Wish us luck.
