houghton lake Fishing Report 2025

Hi friends. Back at it today and it was a pretty good day of boatwork. Well, as good as a day of boatwork could be. We shifted our cleaning and organizing efforts to the wheelhouse today. In all honesty, it looks beautiful. Everything is neatly placed in it's correct spot and it's easy to locate and get access too. But in all honesty, in about two months, it's probably going to look exactly how it did before we cleaned it up. But, that's how it is on a boat. Things get thrown around in the heat of an on-water emergency and roll around during rough seas. For now, it's looking good. Speaking of looking good, our friend Stanley Steamer payed the boat a visit today and our carpets got a nice cleaning as well. All in all, a fine day of boatwork and we're one day closer to our first trip on Saturday.

Projects for tomorrow include: some refrigeration maintenance, some A/C work, more cleaning and organizing and we'll take a ride to the fuel dock to change oil and fuel filters, take on more oil and fuel and take a little boat ride about San Diego Bay and see how things are running while we're underway. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "Captain Randy Kramer is running the boat today. He just called in with limits of Yellowtail, 7 Dorado and a handful of Bluefin for the morning. The weather is very nice and they are having good kelp fishing, with a good sign of Bluefin. So we'll keep you updated as the day goes on.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-18-2016 Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. Today was another gorgeous travel day into the lower latitudes. The weather just just about picture perfect all day long. As normal on these longer trips, Mike prepares a little bit of a later breakfast and shortly after the crew puts on our detailed fishing tackle seminar. There is a lot to go over to get the guys tuned up on the wide variety for fishing we might encounter. Being that there's so many different things we might see, we can't leave any stone unturned, especially for the guys that either haven't been on the Supreme or just haven't been on a longer trip at all. It's very important we have everyone dialed in and on the same page. The rest of the day was rather casual, a lot of rigging, crimping leaders, setting up jigs and just making sure all of the gear is fine tuned,. Once we got everyone tuned up the afternoon closed out with movies, naps reading books and just enjoying a nice ride down. Tomorrow we'll start off with some offshore style fishing and continue to make our plan for the rest of the trip. Good times were had by all on the Prevost private charter. Light line live bait rigs and small colt snipers connected with 57 yellowfin tuna and 2 bluefin tuna.

Happy Easter! I have decided to put some ultra limited load open party trips together for fishing the northern Channel Islands this weekend. I have set up two trips on Saturday and Sunday the 10th and 11th of April. I anticipate trying to find sea bass in the morning and falling back on rock fish and ling cod for the rest of the day. These trips will be limited to only 20 people max!! This just seems to me to be such a great opportunity to get out to the islands on such a nice boat without having to deal with a crowd. The trips will depart from Sea Landing in Santa Barbara at 9pm Friday and Saturday night. The cost will be $175 per person. Please come join me and the crew aboard the Apollo next weekend. Captain Ryan Bostian called up early this morning with an update from "The San Diego" out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We got in really late last night so we were unable to call in a report. However, we had very good Bluefin Tuna fishing for tuna in the 20 to 40 pound class. Our group of 30 anglers ended up with 54 Bluefin Tuna. We did see some bigger fish jumping around but we did not hook any. The 20 pound bait rod was the ticket with a 1o or 2o circle hooks.

We have a last minute spot available on our upcoming 5.5 day trip departing at 6pm on may 31st. This trip will be fishing offshore as well a cedros and Benitos islands. It is limited to only 18 passengers!! Ticket price is $1400 Contact Jodie at 858-220-1593

Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme October 25 after a ten-day Bunker Memorial trip with 22 passengers. His anglers found some excellent yellowtail fishing, and big jacks swept the pot.

Bob Williams of San Diego fought his 41-pound yellow for 20 minutes before it came to gaff. He won first place for it and said he used a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad J-hook on 40-pound P-Line, with a Trinidad 30 reel and a Calstar 700 H rod.

Rick Bynum won second place for a 39.9-pound yellow, and Paul Kraft took third place for a 39.1-pounder. Paul's cousin Ed Kraft of Pt. Hueneme stood in with the group holding his 33-pound dorado.
