headhunters Fishing Report 2025

Hello Everyone, Today we had a great day of fishing on 20-40 lb Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna. With a few 70 lbers mixed in. The style is awesome, long drifts keeping 1-4 going for hours at a time. We are loving the grade of the fish and that they are biting consistently. We are in tomorrow and leave on an 8 day. It will be nice fishing south for a nice change of scenery. Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-24-2019 We arrived early afternoon to the fishing grounds. We had a good afternoon of fishing on tuna from 12 to 35 pounds. Most of the fish were down toward the lower end of the spectrum. We didn't see much sign of anything else but the tuna throughout the afternoon but were still going to stay another day here to get fixed up on them. Late in the day we decided to pull the anchor and go troll around about 40 minutes before dark but picked up a old seiner anchor that weighed about 500 pounds. That ended those plans! It took us about three hours to get rid of it and fix everything it broke! Quite the tussle. Good weather still a little squally and rainy at times but good seas! See you tomorrow. 10 yellowfin 1 bluefin 3 skipjack. We put our McDonough charter group on enough fish to sink the boat. Unfortunately the tuna didn’t want much to do with our hooks.

40 bluefin 14 yellowfin. Steady stop and go action. Small jigs like the Shimano colt sniper and flat fall or a rubber banded sinker rig both fished on 40-60lb line were top producers.

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat as they have had some of the best Yellowtail fishing we have seen in years at the Coronado Islands. But things have changed anf the water temperature has dropped and the Yellowtail have really slowed down. Yesterday we had 33 Yellowtail and around 20 Yellowtail today. So we are going to shift gears and start fishing offshore in Mexican waters outside the 12 mile area, so you will not need passports to fish. We will be in search of Tuna, Yellowtail and Dorado which are in our range. Make sure to bring your standard offshore gear from 20 to 50 lb rigs, we will check back in again tomorrow and let you know how things go.

Great day of fishing our first day out.We cleared the doc at 8 AM with bait on board. 2 hours later we where pulling 12 pound yellowtail over the side till 7pm. The weather is great and we are going to try our luck at this tomorrow.

Today we spent our day looking for kelps. There was a lot of kelps but we had to be selective and persist through many empty's until we were able to find one that was holding. The fruitful kelp for us had beautiful Dorado that wanted to bite.It was a chaotic 30 minutes of biting fish, but we made the most out of it. Everyone was able to land a Dorado and we even picked off a Wahoo! Here we have Mark and Jon with their beautiful Dorado! Jon wants to make sure his family knows he is having a blast so far on his trip!

Today we tried our hand at Wahoo fishing once again. It was not the red hot bite like yesterday but it was still good numbers and unmatched quality of fish. Many 40-60 lb fish. We have to start heading up now. We may have some time to fish Yellowtail tomorrow on our way up. Here we have some victorious anglers after another great hit on Wahoo! Also Andrew with an absolute monster!
