Fishing was a little tough off shore today. There was yellowfin for everyone and we got a few dorado on kelp, but not the big hits like we have been getting. Fished the island with very little signs and only a handful of yellowtail. Tomorrow we will be looking around the island. Weather is decent, and looks like it will be getting better tomorrow. 35 pass. 140 yellowtail 33 bonito. I know some of you are wondering why we have fish in burlap bags. At the end of the trip we take our fish out of the fishhold and put them in bags so our customers don’t have to carry their fish home in their backpacks. Their core temps are 35 degrees.

                Hello everyone and welcome.  We are back in action.  I'm sorry we had to take some time off but the baby missed her daddy.  The Syd monster held up the whole operation.  After a week with me though she said "OK dad, you can go now".  You see, she understands dad has a mortgage to pay.  OK, enough of that.  We departed this evening for a quickie.  1.5 days.  We have bait.  We got quite a bit more than I thought we would out of our one box.  It's pretty much straight mackerel though.  There's some sardine but not a lot.  We'll see how they like them.  They are the bluefin.  We chose to hunt the blues.  They're such a nice grade of fish.  Better than the 5 pound yellowfin that's around.  Here we go again.

                                                                                                               

 

Today we went out with 13 anglers and caught 33 yellowtail and 12 rockfish. The best way to catch a yellowtail today was on a yo-yo lure. These fish are very big and mean so make sure you have fresh 40 or 50 lb. monofilament. We did manage to catch a couple of yellowtail on the surface iron but the yo-yo was by far the most consistent. The yellowtail were in the 18-30 lb. class.

Capt Mike Pritchard called in a trip announcement for tonight aboard the Tribute, we have a trip leaving tonight targeting Yellowtail, Rockfish and Lingcod. So far we have a very light load and would love to have you join us, the weather is looking really nice for this weekend. We now have the Apollo in beautiful Santa Barbara for the rest of the spring. We are running two Berkley sponsored limited load overnight trips to the Channel Islands. The first trip will depart on Thursday night April 19th at 9 pm to fish on Friday April 20th. The second trip will depart at 9 pm on Thursday night May 17th to fish Friday May 18th. Captain Steve Gawitt just called in with an update from Aztec with an offshore update from San Diego. This morning on our first drift put 24 Bluefin Tuna, 2 Yellowfin Tuna, and 1 Yellowtail on the deck. We are seeing bigger Bluefin Tuna and we have had a fair amount of missed fish.
