goose hummock Fishing Report 2025

Drove out to the honey hole and immediately saw fish. After drifting for a couple hours it became obvious that today was a different day. We had plenty of tuna around us but unfortunately they never reached the aggression level we wanted. We ended with 24 yellowfin tuna.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this evening with an update from “The San Diego” out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay! Today we had 34 passengers catch 7 Bluefin Tuna (20 to 55 pounds) and 12 Yellowtail. We had several heartbreaks on 75 to 120 pounders. Please bring a 25 to 30 pound rod as well as a 50 pound rod.  Here we go again.  This time for 4 days.  Tough decision for me today.  Do i make a left or a right?  As always, they both have there advantages and disadvantages, but in the end, one outweighed the other.  So I made a left.  I hope I made the right decision  Good timing is everything.  We're bombing her down below.  We've been flying down all day and night and we"ll be fishing after lunch tomorrow.  One of the boats caught some tuna down this way today and we're going to try and get in on some of that.  We should have good weather for the trip as long as the forecast holds true.  We're hoping for lots of fish the next couple days.  I could use the pressure release.
       

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

Weather report was a bit off for our first trip of 2021. Spent the day on the anchor in manageable depths. Plenty of fish fillet for all. No sign of yellowtail, yet !

Today we caught 2 yellowfin tuna and did not like what we saw offshore. We are going back to the islands starting tomorrow. Bring a 25 or 30 lb flyline setup and a 40 or 50 lb yoyo setup. Passports required !

This trip had a little of everything. (1) stressed out captain because he thought we might get skunked. (2) line shy, finicky tuna that would only bite light line. (3) Wide Open, heavy line eating, 45 going, madness. (4) a really cool shark that hung with us while we caught 198 yellowfin tuna.

 Well, as promised we left on another trip today.  This one being an LA Rod and Reel Club long range 2 day trip.  We got a nice jump on things.  We were done getting bait and leaving the harbor by 11:00 this morning which allowed us to get to the tuna grounds by 5:00 this evening which allowed us to find a school of yellowfin before dark which allowed for most of the anglers on board to catch at least one which allowed me to feel satisfied about our day today.  Catching fish on a departure day.  Those fish were free.  Tomorrows the true day.  That's when we get real nasty.  So right now we're anchored up in the cove of an island and I couldn't be happier about it.  For the last week at night this boat has been running.  We've always been traveling somewhere so it feels real nice to be on anchor with the engines off.  It's even better that we're in a protected cove.  It's like being in the bay.  I can't speak for everyone on board but I'm pretty sure I'll be sleeping with my thumb in my mouth tonight.  Until tomorrow....
        
 

Capt Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego as they wrapped up their trip of 5::30 am to 5:30 pm full day trip, we ended the day with Mexican limits of Yellowtail for out 9 anglers. Yes we went out with 9 anglers, it has been light loads and looks like it will be that way all week. Today was a really nice change of pace as we dropped anchor and never had to move, and we had 1 - 4 hanging at all times today. The fish today averaged from 15 to 25 lb, the flylined baits and the surface irons worked really well today. We will be running everyday this year and the fishing has been really fun. Wish you could have been there, if the boat is still floating then we will be running.
