Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute called in a trip wrap for todays trip, it was very good fishing this morning, with some highs and lows. We ended with 31 mixed tuna and 25 very nice grade yellowtail. Yo yo and fly lining worked very well for, and are still getting some hook ups in the dark while sitting on a kelp patty. Hello everybody. Good times this morning on the sea anchor. Biting bluefin tuna with a smattering of nice yellowtail to start off our day made breakfast taste that much better for everyone who attended the meal call. A half pound breakfast burrito tastes just a little better after pulling on fish for a couple hours after the sunrises. Anyhow, we had another decent day today of catching bluefin and yellowfin, mostly on blind jig strikes, and shaking off "neck-tie" yellowtail and dorado's to fill in the gaps when the tuna had their noses in the mud. For the most part, their noses stayed in that mud but when they did pop up, we made the most of it with some quality tuna fish.

Another solid day made for the decision to head coastal and see if we can't find us some yellowtail's with some size to them. We'll give this offshore scene another try later but for now, we're going to get out of the wind for a bit and give the anglers a change of scenery. We'll fill you in on our day tomorrow evening. Skipper Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme July 13 after a three-day trip with 23 anglers. "There's good sign of fish down to at least 150 miles," he said. "The ocean is nice, and about 67.3 degrees." Don Todd of Sun Valley won first place on the trip for his 37.8-pound albacore. He said it grabbed a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and 30-pound P-Line on a Penn 555 reel and a seven-foot rod. "That fish made my day," said Don. "It felt good!" Sam Ferarelli of Los Alamitos got a 34-pound albacore and Dennis McNeely of Santa Cruz found a 33.6-pounder for second and third places.

Captain Mike Pritchard checked in with an update from the Tribute. We had decent fishing on Friday! Our 21 anglers ended up with 61 California Yellowtail and 1 Bluefin Tuna (up to 110 pounds).

The Tribute has overnight trips departing daily at 10 PM.

Larry Brown chartermastered a 976 TUNA father-son five-day trip aboard Polaris Supreme with skipper Drew Henderson. The expedition returned to Fisherman's Landing June 21. The trip produced a remarkable catch of yellowtail that included some halibut, three bluefin and two albacore.
Brown said the yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island was excellent, though seals created some problems. "The weather was good except the wind came up on the last day, when we fished outside," he said.

The jackpot lineup was most unusual: an opah, a white seabass and a yellowtail. Mark Taylor of Jamul got the first-place, 67.2-pound moonfish or opah, on a sardine-colored Mega Bait jig, with 40-pound Big Game line on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Seeker 6470 Black Steel rod.
Rick Parks of Watsonville won second place for a 54.6-pound white seabass that took his sardine on a dropper loop. Alex Bravo of San Diego won third place for a 47.2-pound yellowtail.
The kid's jackpot featured two yellowtail bracketing a bluefin tuna. Alex Bravo Jr. of San Diego, 14, won first place for a 42.6-pound yellow. Sydney Mack, 10, (whose dad Dave works on the boat) caught a 32.8-pound bluefin tuna. David Jacobsen, 10, got a 32-pound yellowtail.

Captian Ryan Bostian checked in this evening. The audio report is a little broken up. Today the San Diego had 47 anglers catch 121 Yellowtail. We had good times today on the San Diego!

The goal at the beginning of this week was to find a new area of fish. Last weekend we started to see signs of our area drying up so on Monday we decided to go looking for new fish. While our fish count did not show success (1 yellowtail) I was very happy with the day because of all the water we were able to eliminate. On Tuesday we went out with 17 anglers and put what we learned on Monday to good use. Our fish count for the day was 20 dorado and 48 yellowtail. The dorado we caught were 10-20 pounders and the yellows were 5-15 pounders. Wednesday and Thursday we sat at the dock due to bad weather. Fridays fish count for 30 anglers was 42 yellowtail. Capt. Ray took over on Saturday and came back to the dock with 27 yellowtail. The next 4 days will determine what we do with our schedule. If the offshore fish are still available in November we will stick with our 5:30-7:00 offshore schedule. If the offshore fish go away we will switch over to 7:00 - 4:00 local fishing. I will keep everybody posted.

Conditions at the islands are improving very fast. We saw a couple of schools of yellowtail today and landed one. Excellent red fishing on some well rested stones.
