Back after a five-day trip, the 7th Annual Paul Chappell Charter aboard the Polaris Supreme arrived at Fisherman's Landing July 10. The 24 anglers were guided by skipper Drew Henderson.
"We got some nice yellowtail at San Martin," remarked Drew, "but there's a lot of that big squid around there. You can't get any more yellows once they get on you." Chartermaster Chappell won first place for his 34.6-pound albacore. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad 94150 hook on 30-pound Yo-Zuri line. He fished with a Penn Squidder reel and a Sabre seven-foot rod of the same era. Phil Beltrami of Napa won second place for a 33.4-pounder, and Craig Pappas of Santa Cruz won third place for a 32.4-pound longfin.

Nov. 13

                We were back on The Ridge today.  We got to the spot a little after daylight and we found some action after a little bit of looking.  We were making drifts catching wahoo and tuna.  No great numbers on the wahoo.  We caught one per rod.  That's an average though.  Not everyone caught one.  For example, I believe team Oberg caught 3 or 4, and team Grella caught 5.  So it wasn't a great spread but everyone had there chances.  For example, team Holeman went 1 for 7 nd team Henry lost a bunch too.  But when they weren't losing wahoo they were pulling on tuna.  A bit on the smaller side but not too small.  We were tagging the bigger ones.  It was a fun and productive day I thought.  But we always want more.

 

                We left a little while after lunch toward Alijos Rocks and we'll be there all day tomorrow.  We'll most likely have to leave tomorrow night though because the wind, she's acoming.

                                                                               

Game fish eluded us today. So we loaded up our freezers with fresh rockfish. Skip the grocery store nausea. Have some fun and harvest your own seafood. We need reservations to run. Call Seaforth Landing (616)224-3383.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 8-2-2017 Well I did find some photos of Tom Chaparros trip. One of the crew took a dozen pictures on his cell phone while he was running around working! As well as thinking Tom and the gang for a great fun filled trip I would like to extend a special thanks to Herb Yamanaka for bringing custom-made solid wood bowls to give out to all of the anglers and crew on the trip. Herb does this every year and the workmanship of his gifts are absolutely superb! Thank you Herb Tom and gang for a fun six days the Polaris supreme crew!

Mike Pritchard called in with this update for the Tribute. "The great fishing we had this morning, did continue on. We've had very good fishing. We've caught limits of Yellowtail, limits of Yellowfin tuna and we had a nice Dorado lunch. The weather has been nice, but there is a light breeze. The Yellowfin really loved the surface lures.

"We'll be back out tomorrow night on another 1.5 Day trip. See you on the water."

Hello Everyone, We had another nice day today. Mainly catching good Yellowtail and Bluefin. It was a slow pick in the morning and slowed around lunch time. The second half of the day we focused on the larger tuna. We were able to get one bite, unfortunately the hook pulled. Slower action on the larger fish today. Tomorrow we will be switching gears to Kelp patty fishing. In hopes of Dorado and Yellowtail. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Fishing was absolutely phenomenal! If the last two day were great, today was even better. We had a good morning bite and then topped off the trip with an afternoon bite that went well into the dark. The tuna were biting the kite and anything else we put in the water. All fish ranged between 175 and 260 pounds. All anglers had a shot at them and a couple landed two. We did however stop to replenish our energy with some of Pedro's great food. For lunch we had tuna with a red sauce and ravioli on a bed of spinach with a cream sauce. Sounds like a weird combo, but boy did it taste good together. And dinner was a great roasted Cornish game hen with all the veggies and potato on the side. In addition to Pedro, I have to say our crew has done a fantastic job. They really work well together. And of course Lon and his group were a delight to have on board. And by the conversation in the galley, they are all planning on returning to this trip next year. Lon is going to open it up so if you are interested call Susan in the office. There will be a couple of spots. And on that note we are heading for home in excellent weather. We will be at the dock Sunday morning. Come down and see this great catch. Meet Lon from OTR. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 10-21-2019 Good start on the trip today. Good weather all day long and scratched away at the tuna and had a good day on the Wahoo. We didn't get any pictures of the tuna but here's a few Wahoo pictures for the day. The guys are all doing well and having a great time. The Polaris Supreme Crew!
