 We fished hard today.  It felt like a kind of slow day but when you look at our tally it shows we had a good day.  We just never got steady more than a couple of drifts.  We'd stop and get a handful and then have to go again.  Other than a few hour long drifts that is.  But at the end of the day, when only half the people were fishing and I had a yellowtail to give away because the angler who caught it had his limit already and nobody handed me over a tag, I knew it was a good day. 

 Things didn't start off so hot though  Nope.  I knew our bait was dying but I thought we were good for another day of fishing before it would croak.  I was wrong.  "Red Boy".  The sardines were red.  Most were either floating belly up or lying at the bottom of the tank.  We made it through though.  We worked hard and had a good day.  The yellows were nice ones too.  20-25 pounds in the morning and 14-25 pounds in the afternoon.

 The weather through here was great today.  I'm not sure we've had one day at this Island this year where the wind wasn't ripping through the south end where we've been fishing.  Now we have one and it looks like it will remain true tomorrow as well.  We saved one tank of bait from last trip.  I knew the first morning we may not have any survivors for our last day if we didn't save our one tank of good bait.  Hopefully we find something to use it on.  I know we'll be making horrific speed coming up so we won't have any time to "work" an area.  We just have to pick a course and hope for the best.  See ya.

Hi friends. Well, the morning bait/Yellowtail bite didn't quite pan out this morning so we decided to get our butts offshore and try to connect with some open water species. We managed to find a bunch of kelps and we had some action on some Yellowtails that way but we never located a school of Bluefin that wanted to bite. We did see a few schools of BFT as did the other boats in the area but they were reluctant to bite for any of us. Hopefully, tomorrow is a new day and these things will get with the program.

We'll be giving this a half a day or so tomorrow to see if we can't do some damage on the BFT tomorrow before we have to book it for home. Our weather was absolutely flat calm all day with a heavy overcast but the sea and wind conditions were stellar. We've got a little rain washing the boat as of right now (23:42 hours) and a few brave souls are downstairs trying for some squid. I'd better go see what they're up to.

We departed today on the "Let's Talk Hook-up" charter with Rock Cod Rick and 21 anglers. Things sound very promising on the albacore grounds so that is where we are headed. The weather is sloppy and we are hoping it will lay down. Tune in tomorrow for an update.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-27-2016 Thanks again for checking in. We arrived nice and early to the tuna grounds to get ourselves in the best position for the days work. Shortly after first light we decided where we wanted to get things going. It started off quite slow as the conditions weren't just right. We lacked current which is not favorable to catching fish so it became a little bit of a waiting game. That gave Chef Mike his time to get breakfast out of the way. Not too long after we got mobile and did some looking around and finally started checking out some different schools and began scratching away at a few bluefin. They were in the 18 lb class which is not bad at all. As the day progressed, we found the spot that looked the best and posted up, getting a solid chum line going, got the balloons out and settled in. The fish slowly started popping up with some bluefin in the 70 lb class hitting the deck as well as Marilyn landing her first ever balloon fish and first yellowfin at about 70 lbs. Congrats on that one!! The rest of the afternoon was a steady pick on that beautiful grade of tuna. You couldn't ask for a better way to end a 3 day trip. As soon as we landed our last 2 nice bluefin, one being Theresa's 75 lb "dream fish", it was time to pack it up and head home for San Diego.  Well, our best fishing today came from the zone where all of our offshore fishing has been this year.  No surprise there.  I wish we would have stayed in that zone longer, but for the past week, anyone on there last day of there trip has been complaining about there speed going up.  "Oh it's soo slow", "we're driving through mud", "make sure you give yourself plenty of extra time", etcetera, etcetera.  So we planned on that.  We fished with our watch today.  But that never happened.  We never did slow down.  Unfortunately, by planning on it, it put us in this years desert zone.  The zone with no fish.  Beautiful water, no fish.  But things have to change right?  Right.  Just not today.  Oh well.  At least our first 2 days were good ones.  Oh, and the weather was good.  That always helps.

 We'll be in tomorrow and Tommy will be coming back out for 5.  I'm going home.  What will I do?  Spend every minute with my beautiful daughter except for the 4 1/2 hours spent on the golf course.  I will miss writing to you folks though.  I enjoy telling you what's on my mind.  I sugar coat nothing.  See you all in 5 days.
     

Good morning everyone, Today we tried for bear, we were going big or going bust! We had our sights set on these big Bluefin Tuna. The tuna were very particular on what they ate. If you were persistent with a nice lively bait over and over all day long you had a chance at a bite. Bites were few and far between but when if you got picked up it was a big one. We had two bites today and one of them bit our charter master Vernon Burkes bait. He was prepared and ready with the right gear, the right persistence mindset, and capitalized on his opportunity with a large Bluefin Tuna! Today it was nice to have a chance at these fish but we are going to try inshore tomorrow for yellowtail. Wish us luck! Team Supreme

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an update from The San Diego. We had 144 Yellowfin Tuna and 70 Dorado! The fish were not full speed. It was a pick all day.
