I have always felt that it takes 3 full days to give the Coronado Islands a thorough check. Today was day # 1 and we caught 31 bonito and 100 rockfish. Spent a lot of time looking for yellowtail and never found anything substantial. Saturday is a definite go with a light load at this time.

The kids are getting picky! Today we spent our day offshore looking for kelps. We had outstanding fishing on the smaller Yellowfin Tuna even though we released most of them. Our main target today was trying to find some Dorado, and a couple kelps had just what we needed. We ended up with with an action-packed day of quality Dorado and small Yellowfin fishing. A great way to end the trip. full of action and a few bigger fish.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in tonight with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego. Today we had a light load of 12 anglers. We decided to move offshore and we had a very good day. We ended up with 60 Yellowtail (LIMITS). We also saw a spot of Bluefin Tuna. But we did not hook one.

If you want to come out with us bring a 25 to 30 pound bait rod. Also bring 40, 50, or 60 pound outfit for Bluefin Tuna. It was about this time last year that we started seeing those nice big Bluefin Tuna.

Aug 16
    We started our morning off again in the local bluefin zone.  Things felt a little better.  There were only about half the boats that were there the day before.  It had a much less claustrophobic feel to it.  Unfortunately the bluefin didn't seem to care.  It was on the slow side.  In 4 hours we managed 9 of them with 20 yellowfin to go along with them.  We left for the day and looked around for schools.  We scratched here and there throughout the day.  We had some reports of spots of 100+ pounders up so we made it there for the evening hit but never found a school of those.  We did catch some nice grade yellowfin though so with those and the sign of the 100 + pounders we know where we're starting tomorrow.  But first things first, we're going to run into the beach and try for bait tonight and as I write this we just finished up and we're headed back out with a couple tanks of mackerel and a couple tanks of sardine that we still have for ammo.
                            

 

Fishing was not wide open today. The guys topped off with the yellowtail for the trip. They also had good fishing on the dorado on a couple of different kelp patties. Our weather continues to be great. As we travel home to make our 6:00am arrival tomorrow we will be dining on Pedro's exquisite prime rib dinner. Hello Everyone, Today we had another outstanding day of fishing. Lots of Bluefin in the 20-40lb range as well as some great grade Yellowtail. We spent the afternoon trying to make some bait for tomorrow. We caught Spanish mackerel pretty steady for a while before the wind forced us to head to the anchorage for the night. Tomorrow we will start by targeting Yellowtail and chasing big ones in the evening. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Since our big hit on Tuesday, the yellowtail at the Coronado islands have gone into sleepy mode. Each of the last two days we have seen plenty of yellowtail but they have been very difficult to catch. Today we went out with 62 passengers and caught 2 yellowtail and 150 rockfish. One thing is for sure, these yellowtail will bite again. As far as predicting when they will bite it is anyone's guess. If you come out expecting to catch yellowtail, you may go home disappointed. If you come out to enjoy the "fishing"and the ocean, and you happen to come on a day in which the yellowtail are biting. You just might experience the best day of "catching" in your life. Be prepared, the difference between 75 yellowtail on the boat and 2 yellowtail on the boat is 2 hours of biting fish.
