Captain Mike Pritchard checked back in at 11:27 AM. We have been having tough conditions. We just landed a Bluefin Tuna that taped out at 133 pounds. We have nine fish on board. We have had a lot of lost fish. Getting them on the boat has proven to be difficult. Be sure to bring your heavy tackle. I would suggest 30#, 40#, 50# and 80$ outfits. Tom Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme September 28 following the 10th annual Jeffery Hall charter. He tied up at Fisherman's Landing and weighed the top fish from the five-day trip with 22 anglers. Dick Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga won first place for a 69-pound tuna from Guadalupe Island. He said the fish bit on a sardine and a 4/0 Mustad hook. He used 50-pound Ande line, a TLD 20 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod. "I got him in 15 minutes," said Dick setting up for the punch line. "It was 90 percent skill." Dick's son Tom Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga was second, for a 57-pound tuna, and Kalob Hall of Victorville won third place, for a 45-pound yellowfin tuna.

Today's numbers were better. We had a lot more fish, just not a real good size to them. The albacore and bluefin are around 12 lbs. with a few bigger. The yellowfin are bigger, around 25-30 lbs. Weather is still good. Thanks for checking in. Tommy and crew

Very similar to last week with the exception of a big yellowtail day. The potential for a big yellowtail score is definitely out there but several things must come together. On Friday I thought we were going to get our shot. We stopped at a spot and instantly had 8 yellowtail hooked and we were seeing a big school around us. While we were fighting our first 8 fish the motherlode of big bull seal ions came in to ruin our fun. When the dust settled we had only landed 3 and the big school was scared away by the cute cuddly seal ions. Water conditions are about as nice as they could be with temperatures ranging from 67-70 degrees and very clean. The calico bass fishing has been good on the days we get anchovies and the barracuda continue to bite very well at times. All and all we had a very enjoyable week catching surface fish in very nice weather. Hot and sunny in flat calm seas catching gamefish describes our current conditions perfectly. Tackle to bring out remains the same. A 15 or 20 lb. rod to fish anchovies a 25 or 30 lb. rod to fish sardines a 40 lb. jig stick and an assortment of hooks (2's and 2/0's) and small egg or rubber core sinkers (1/8-1/2 oz.) will have you covered.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 09-28-2019 We had a nice day on the Wahoo with a few good grade tuna and a little grouper thrown in. The fishing started around 1 AM in the morning on mostly small yellowfin tuna and continued on until after daylight. Their is definitely a lot of pulling and jerkin going on with that small grade fish but not a lot of tagging for the amount of fish were landing. The weather has been giving us some serious grief. Last night it was up to and exceeding 20 kn. Mid day it slowed down to where we could troll around and it wasn't too bad but by sundown it was snorting again! It looks like we're going to have 2 to 3 more days of this. I guess this is us paying for those two beautiful days traveling down. It's not too bad on the anchor but trolling around isn't too fun early in the day and late in the afternoon. The guys are hanging in there and looking forward to tomorrow. The Polaris supreme crew!

July 1

We had a good day of tailing at the Cedros today. After a short look around this morning we had an anchor job where we saw a little sign of those premium cow yellows from last night. You know which ones. Those 35-40 pounders is what I'm talking about. We didn't catch a lot but you don't need too many of those to get the crowd on the boat (crew included) oohing and awing. After breakfast we made a move, got some bait and then it was game on. We had good fishing on mostly 18-22 pound yellowtail. We sure would like to see that fishing stay consistent. Those were beautiful fish.

After several hours of pulling and winding we looked for more of those cows and made some drifts for halibut. We got a handful of halibut and a couple more cow yellows before we took off from there and headed north. We're going to look for tuna tomorrow. We have a few hours of stopped fishing time and we're hoping we can do that catching tuna.

Everyones having a blast and eating like champs. Dinner tonight is seared Ahi. Lunch today was sea bass tacos. Last night we had a seafood Alfredo. That's right. Champs.

Today our passengers made it thru the strong south wind, fought off the morning sickness, and were rewarded with 93 yellowfin tuna and 108 skipjack tuna. Our schools would go back and forth from aggressive to line shy. A wise angler would have a variety of line sizes from 20 to 50 lb. small hooks are very important. Size 2 Mustad 94150 or something similar.
