bear creek lake Fishing Report 2025

Today our 24 anglers landed 7 bluefin tuna from 70-85 pounds. First time anglers, seasoned anglers, captains, crewmen and all the way up to our office personnel. Nobody is off limits when it comes to the frustration and lack of sleep that a bluefin can create. However, if you stick with it, come prepared and keep an open mind. You will eventually be rewarded with a fish of a lifetime.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-08-2016 Good evening folks, Polaris Supreme checking in. We had a fantastic day of yellowtail fishing! These larger size the yellowtail where biting everything from the dropper-loop and fly-line baits too yo-yo and surface iron jigs. It was definitely not a hard and get bit, unlike the last couple weeks. Many times throughout the day we had yellowtail boiling around the boat! We also caught a nice white seabass during one of the yellowtail flurries! Overall, it was a terrific day of fishing! We are now anchored up in an area where we have a great chance of catching white seabass, halibut and yellowtail throughout the night and early morning. Tomorrow, we will be spending our time in the same area in the hopes of duplicating the success we had today! Thanks for reading, Team Supreme

Hi friends. Starting off the day, we were expecting rain if not when we woke up but for sure around the mid-morning time. Captain Drew told me to expect work at 0700 hours this morning and that he would call me if he was going to call off the day. At about 0615 hours, my phone rang and when I saw that my phone read "Incoming call: Drew Henderson", I nearly trampled my girlfriend to reach for the phone and hear those beautiful words of "don't come to work today". Well, Drew being the awesome boss that he is just wanted to remind me that work was still on. Disappointed is an understatement. He specifically said that he would only call to let me know that we were NOT to come into work. I reluctantly suited up for work, still a little peeved that my vision of sleeping in and an all-day couch marathon was switched back to 7-11 coffee, 5-hour energies, and arthritic hands by days end.

Now some of you might be asking "Richie. Why so grumpy about going to work?" Well, after Tuesday's primer coat application, the primer creates what is called "orange peel".The entire hull looks like a giant, white orange peel and to rid ourselves of this orange peel, what must one do to smooth it out and get prepped for the final gloss coat? If you guessed "more sanding" then yes, you are correct. From 0700 until 1630 hours on Wednesday, we had to re-sand the entire boat with 220-grit sand paper to smooth everything out. Oh, how could I forget? We did all of this under beautiful, sunny skies. That weatherman is not our friend at the moment. He was wrong about the Wednesday morning/afternoon rain but he was correct about the rainfall on Wednesday evening in San Diego.

So here it is, Thursday morning and work was called off not only because of the rain but also to relieve sore, aching muscles as the constant use of both vibrating and orbital sanders took it's toll on Drew, Jed, Mark, Tommie, Jamie and myself from yesterday and we were given the day off. Thanks, Drew.

In all seriousness, there is a silver lining to all of my complaining of long days and sore bodies. All of the hard work that we put into the boat doesn't go un-noticed when we take a look at the boat right before the first trip of the season. The boat will look stunning and it will be a pleasure to keep her maintained throughout the years. When we have to put on our sunglasses to even stare at the hull and when you see your reflection perfectly in the boat, it's sweet justice to put so much time and effort into a project and to have it come out looking so beautiful. We can't wait to see how everyone will react when they first lay eyes on the new and improved Polaris Supreme.

Anyhow, I had some time to type out a nice, long report on our day off today. Weather permitting, we'll be back at it tomorrow to finish some touch-up sanding as we get ready for the final application of the gloss coat which probably will be scheduled for either Friday or Monday. We'll chat with you tomorrow and let you know how our day went.

P.S. Sorry about no pictures lately. There really hasn't been anything picture-worthy in the past couple of days and the pictures I would've shot, you've seen before: all of us with sanders in our hands, gloves on, respirator masks, safety glasses and looking like giant powdered donuts. I'll send some shots with the completion of the gloss coat.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We fished at the Coronado Islands yesterday. It was our first trip at the Islands for a months. We had 13 anglers and we had full limits of Yellowtail on our first stop of the day. We had excellent fishing for Yellowtail, Bonito and Calico Bass. They were biting on surface iron and fly-lined baits.

The loads are light. We had two reservations for tomorrow so we should have plenty of room on the boat.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-17-2016 Hello Supreme Fans, We started off our day fishing looking for yellowtail. It didn't take long for the first one to come aboard, But it was short lived so we pulled the pick and made a 6 hour move which proved to be a good one! As the boat settled back on the anchor, We had several bent rods and the yellowtail charging the boat. The rest of the day we had steady yellowtail fishing until first call for dinner . During dinner we got the word that the yellowfin tuna were on the chew, and now we our on the hunt for them! The Supreme Team

I told you all we would be departing today on a 5 day trip on my last report and I have to tell yah, that's exactly what we did. We're out on a private charter with Mr. Pfleger and some of his boys. Things went alright at the bait receivers. We got two boxes of a mostly spanish mackerel with some greenies and about a 7.375 average of sardines mixed in. Things are looking a little scary with our sardine stocks of San Diego this year thus far. You may want to make sure you pack your bait catching rigs if you're coming out this year and also think about getting your anchovy fishing skills back. You may need them.

We're thinking about starting offshore tomorrow on a southerly track. We're not going to put the brakes on and fish locally where most the tunas been caught lately. We're going to put ourselves in position to do other things the next couple days after tomorrow. We may look for white sea bass and yellows somewhere down the line. It's not something we'd do on a normal long range trip but this is a special one. I'll explain later. You know how Pfleger is with his sea bass.

Hi friends. A lack of bigger fish was the main culprit for our day. Hard to not be spoiled with the previous two days but our weather was very pleasant and that smaller fish (12-22 lbs.) got on us, so out Tuesday was not lost. We did manage a handful of those bigger YFT's and BFT's and we'll be on the final leg of our hunt tomorrow. Oh yeah, today was also just a fine day to eat food. Sushi Schooler and Sushi Shawn kicked out some sushi, beautifully seared bluefin, yellowfin poki, and all the goods to go along with it. Not bad for a couple of round-eyes. Anyhow, Polaris Supreme and like I said, our weather was awesome and it's looking to repeat itself tomorrow. Hopefully --fishing wise-- we can repeat Sunday and Monday. Check back tomorrow and we'll hopefully finish this trip off with bang. Peace be with you, and also with you.

Oh yeah. Before I go, we're going to be giving you a brand new segment to our daily reports. It might not happen everyday but chances are it's going to happen on the reg. The new segment is called "Reasons We Make Mark Clark Wear A Hard Hat". If you've been following our reports, you'll know that last trip, we caught a big yellow hard hat and without hesitation, promptly gave it to our beloved deckhand, Mark, to wear for the duration of his career on the boat. So, without further delay, here is how our new installation will go.

Reason #1:
When fishing for squid, all one must do is drop the squid jig down, bounce it a little bit, raising the rod up and slowly dropping it back down while keeping the line tight. When you get a bite, the squid latches onto the jig with its tentacles and all you have to do is wind it up. That's all. But last night, history was made. While fishing side-by-each with Mark --Drew and I witnessed this with our bare eyes and still can't stop reliving this gem-- the jig was no more than five feet below the surface and as Mark was jigging, the strike came. A squid was just about to latch on to the end of the jig and all of a sudden, something we've never seen before happened. Mark set the hook. He set the hook! And I don't mean like, he gave it a little tug. He set this thing like he was Jimmy freaking Houston at the Bassmaster Classic. If we were kite fishing, we would've shown this hookset as a perfect example of how to set a hook once your kite baits have been eaten by a two hundred pound tuna. Thankfully, no one was hurt as the jig and sinker went flying into the side of the house at Mach 2, and we now have a brand new little blog baby to share with the world wide web. We hope you enjoy. Hi friends. Not too much to report today. Things seemed a little different today as that big fish had their noses in the mud for the most part and we never tagged a fish over twenty pounds today. That smaller fish made their presence known but that's not really what we were targeting today. Oh well, I think the guys needed a break anyhow from their awesome day they had yesterday and with that, we're going to take a break from the tuna fishing scene and we're headed to a different area that we think will be holding some yellowtail and dorado on kelp paddies. We'll be there first thing in the morning and we'll report back to you tomorrow. Take care and wish us luck.
