ballard`s resort Fishing Report 2024

Mike Pritchard called i with this report for the Tribute. "Very good fishing here once again. Limits of Yellowtail, 18 mixed tuna with a sprinkling of Skipjack to go with it. The weather is really nice & we are looking around for some more Bluefin.

Nov. 6

Well today wasn't at all what we expected. Last week it had been great yellowtail fishing in the zone we were in but for whatever reason most that fish wasn't around today. Famous words of Steve Loomis, "only one things for sure and that's that things will change". So true in life but especially true in fishing. Things will always change whether it be for better or for worse. Unfortunately today it was for worse. That's why you can't base your booking a trip on last year or even 2 weeks ago. Oh well. We caught a few nice yellows today and lots of other species we saved for meals later on in the trip because they'll be tasty. We're now heading south. We're going to start fishing first thing tomorrow fishing for D, all of the above.

Passenger Mike Payne brought a whole bunch of crab with him. I'm not sure exactly what kind of crab they were. They weren't king crab but the next best thing. Basically it was all you can eat because when I had all I could take down there was a lot of it still available. Delicious. Talk to you tomorrow.

Hey everybody the voyager has another 1 day shallow water mexican coast trip set up for this saturday. We will be keeping everything under 200 feet! The bass fishing has been very fun in the kelp, along with shallow water reds! And all the other critters to go with them! The live squid has been abundant so we hope to make that to fish with for the trip. The trip is limited load to 16 passengers so act quickly!!! We are already up to 11 as of this morning!!                                              Clint Cambell started our morning hooking and landing a 70 pound yellowfin tuna on a PL 68, a few other tuna were hooked and lost due to the arrival of the tax man but don't worry that only put a very small dent into our morning plan, we went into search mode but this time we had plan B going for us, yummy flyers on the troll and we started to put a few nice grade tuna aboard with Paul Hess putting a 115 pounder on deck! We ended up scratching up a nice day of tuna and wahoo.

21 anglers on the boat and have 22 Bluefin on the deck. Majority of fish are 60-80 pound range. A couple are smaller and bigger.

Plenty of room on tonights trip. Good Bluefin fishing today!

Aug. 15
 Our day sort of reversed from yesterday.  Today it was a super slow morning that led into an action packed afternoon.  We looked for bluefin tuna this morning.  We started off in the zone where it had been in the weeks prior, but like yesterday, it wasn't around.  We caught one 12 pounder on the troll all morning.  We looked around there and in other places I thought it might have gone but we never saw an meat.  We went through one area where at least we were seeing little dabs of the BF but it was diving off on the meter.  We could tell it didn't want it.

 So we kept tracking around and ended up close to a possible yellowtail honey hole. So we took a look and that's exactly what it was.  For the rest of the afternoon till dark we stayed pretty steady on 12-25+ pound yellers.  It was good fishing.  A very pleasant surprise.  We're keeping this ball rolling.

 Needless to say, well maybe not needless, but we're going to spend the night here and see what this place looks like in the morning.
    

Our final day went perfectly as planned. We fished a few hours drifting for cod in flat calm weather. Good red and ling cod fishing. We then shot outside and found a couple kelps holding some nice grade yellowtail and a few dorado. We enjoyed a nice easy ride home and spent the rest of the day lounging, cleaning, some read, watched movies and some took naps. We get in tomorrow at 7:30, unload, load and the big guy takes her back out for 4 days. We're out. Stay classy San Diego
