saginaw bay Fishing Report 2025

Today was one of those days in which our anglers and ourselves will probably remember for the rest of our lives. Not because of the amount of fish we caught, but the tremendous shows these fish put on. It all began this morning when we found a fishy area on our way to a spot in hopes of wahoo, tuna and grouper. We spotted a nice bird school in some beautiful looking water. When it first came into sight, still a couple miles away, we saw some 30lb grade tuna jumping around in the middle of it. When we got up to it, the scene was a bit different. The tuna were pushed off of it by a jumbo school of big stripped marlin. And what a show they put on for us. A couple of our anglers presented their bait or jigs in the right place and the right time and hooked into these big beautiful fish. They where tail-walking and jumping high out of the water everywhere. On top of that, we were constantly seeing free-swimming marlin on all sides of the boat. Some even came within five feet of the boat! There were literally hundreds of marlin around the boat. It was truly a sight to behold! Finally, after battling and releasing all the marlin we hooked, we carried on making our way to one of our spots that has been extremely productive for big wahoo, tuna and grouper the past couple months for us. When we got there we quickly boated a couple handfuls of very nice mid-sized yellow fin tuna. Even though the tuna where present, there was little to no sign of wahoo. All of our anglers having wahoo on their mind, we decided to make our way to a spot about nights run from where we were. We will be there at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Yesterday we went out with 21 anglers. Final fish count for the day was. 2 lingcod 9 sheephead 67 red rockcod 132 miscellaneous rockfish. We fished deep water in the morning and shallow water in the afternoon. We are scheduled to fish everyday. Make those reservations and come join us.

13:53 hours update:

Hi friends. After a brief snafu (spelling?) with the sea anchor, we rolled right into stops on Bluefin tuna with our best drop yielding 35 of those tunas. Most of the fish were in the 14-22 lb. range but we did manage a few whacks on that 40-60 lb. grade as well. Our good friend Travis Donahue decided that throwing a 9'3" Ulua with 40 lb. test was just a stellar idea and managed to hook a dandy of a fish. I'm pretty sure a new style of angling was invented; it was crouching Travis, boot camp deluxe, and an antenna. Travis did his best but Gunny couldn't take it anymore and had to assist little Travis and the battle ensued. Guns had that fish about 2 feet out of the gaff reach of Mark and myself and just like that, sorrow. The Bluefin tuna won this battle and looked to be in the 120 lb. range. Oh brother.

Anyhow, we've been underway for a few hours now, headed to greater points south. Up next on our itinerary is do some Yellowtail fishing. We have a lot of water to cover and we're hoping to be fully engaged in a miracle and stumble upon something this afternoon when we get out of this cooler water and into some of that warm H20. We're hopeful. The gang just enjoyed a spaghetti and meat sauce lunch and Little Chappy just threw on "The Hurt Locker". Everyone is either playing Siskel and Ebert or snoozin'. 20:00 hours update:

Well, we never stumbled upon something glorious, or anything for that matter, but we gave it our all and when that failed, the gang had a poker tournament. Anyhow, Chef Shawn and Sweet Dee are preparing some type of shrim and scallop feast and the knock just came under my size 11, not-so-Tuff boots and that means it's dinner time. We'll be to the Yellowtail grounds tomorrow morning and we're hoping for a clobber fest. Take care. Happy Birthday, Zeb.

Hello everyone, 

fishing down south is on fire right now. Lots of 20-40 lb tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Yellowtail, and even big Grouper! 

Here is a monster 122 lb Gulf Grouper caught on the last 8 day! It ate a whole skipjack tuna for bait! 

There are only a few more spots open on the remaining 7 and 8 day trips. Jump on while they are biting!

Hey guys, the yellowtail counts at the Coronado Islands have dropped a bit the past couple of days. There are a couple reasons for the slower fishing. First reason is the south wind we have had for the last two days. This south wind has dropped the water temp a few degrees therefore making the yellows a little less active. The second reason is the seal ions have stepped up there game. In the last three days we have lost at least 40 yellowtail to the lions. Good news is , the south wind is predicted to end by the end of today. Starting Tuesday we should start to see the water begin warming again. With the warming water the yellowtail should get more active making them easier to hook. With the seal ions acting as a tax collector it just comes down to the fact that we need to hook more fish. When we are hooking more fish both the seal ions and us can get our share. The best way to hook these yellowtail has still been a flylined sardine on 25 lb. test. The Coronado Island yellowtail have not gone anywhere , they are still there. We just need the water to warm a tiny bit so we can start catching them again. Look for better counts in the next few days. Today's photo is of a father and son with 3 yellowtail caught on Saturday. Quality family time in the outdoors is what it is all about ! Hi friends. We enjoyed a nice ride up the line last night and found ourselves in a position to do some rock cod drifts for a couple of hours this morning and we added some color to our fish holds by tagging some quality lingcods and reds. After a couple hours of codding, we busted a move offshore for the remainder of the day and found a few kelp paddies holding some nice Yellowtail and one had some Dorado swimming around on it. No great numbers but the fish we did capture were quality kelp paddy species. We had gorgeous weather all day by means of a flat ocean and sunny skies. It would've been nice to add some tuna to the mix but we're happy with our outcome as a whole.

So that's it. Chef Schooler kicked out a Fillet Oscar (Fillet Mignon topped with crab meat and Hollandaise sauce) dinner and the gang enjoyed the ride up. Our gratitude goes out to Mark Costello and the gang for being a superb group to have on-board and we'll see you in the future. Our ETA tomorrow is around 0700 in the morning and we'll be turning around and welcoming aboard Chappy and friends for another five day. We'll chat with you tomorrow after the turn-around. Hi friends. Pretty much a repeat report from yesterday. Very good fishing on 18-25 lb. Yellowtail from 0730 this morning until around noon and then it shut off as did the current. We went looking around and found a couple deals of Yellows and added a few more to our count. With that said, we're finished with the Yellowtail area and we're motoring up the line to gain some latitude and finish up our trip tomorrow a little closer to home. There's not much to report other than the fishing has been outstanding for the past two mornings on quality 'tails and we're sitting fat and happy with our totals.

So that's it. Our weather is lovely and I'm sorry I don't have an awesome, wordy report to give to you. It's just been good fishing, good weather, and good people. Not much more to it. Pretty simple, just the way we like it. Take care.

Hello friends. Yellowtail fishing was top notch for us on the Supreme this morning. It started off on the drift for a few quality 'tails and a 45 lb. White Seabass landed by Trampas Costello. We decided to get the anchor down and once we got 'er hung, it was a steady pick on 18-25 lb. fish all the way until after lunch. Really a beautiful grade of fish and we couldn't be happier with our morning score. Once we lost our conditions, we pulled anchor and searched around for a while before we settled back into our "cow zone" and managed to hook a few and land a couple fish in the 35 lb. class before the sunset. Today was a great day of catching quality Yellowtail in the Baja sunshine and we'll be doing it again tomorrow, hoping for the same success. We're currently in the hot night-bite zone, hoping for a bunch more of those gorgeous Seabass and maybe a Yellowtail or two, we'll see. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

Good evening everyone. Overall, today was a slow day but we did manage to catch some fish and we didn't go very long without seeing a spot of jumpers, hooking up on the troll, or stopping on a kelp. We caught a few 12 lb. Bluefin and managed to troll up a handful of 15-22 lb. Yellowfin tuna. All throughout the day, we saw Bluefin boilers until the late afternoon when we lost our water conditions so that's an encouraging sign to see so much fish spread out for miles and miles. Same story today for the fleet, slow fishing for most with the exception of a few token vessels getting lucky. One of these days, we'll be the lucky ones.

Although we saw a good amount of life, today was too slow of a pace to keep us around so we're making a move to do some Yellowtail fishing. We'll be there tomorrow morning, our weather is very favorable, and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

Hi friends. The seas are calm, the skies are clear, and the Supreme is back on the path after dropping off Paul Hess's group and picking up Mark Costello and his closest friends. We're loaded up a good supply of bait and when I say loaded, I mean loaded. We'll be giving the Bluefin area a check first thing in the morning as it sounds like that fishing out there is starting to take shape. It sounds like the lucky boats are getting a little bit luckier and the unlucky boats are still gathering up a few to boot. We'll be there to find out tomorrow and we'll make a decision on our next plan based on our morning. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

Iven moving on up! We had a great a day of fishing today. Our fishing started today at noon and we had non stop action all day long. We landed some nice Yellowfin tuna between 40-80 lbs. However with great tuna action came great shark action. Our resilient passengers were hooking these tuna very well, but the lurking Great White Sharks were hot on their tails. Eating a large majority of our nicer tuna hooked. Pictured here is Ivan with his prized tuna that he was able to hustle in through the sharks! Very different than last years fish ( other fish pictured). Great improvement!
