nootka sound Fishing Report 2024

 Hello all and welcome back.  Or welcome me back or... you know what I mean.  I'm back.  5 days off and I'm back on the water and reporting to you.  I met the boat at the dock at 6:30 in the morning and was pleased to see the stern deck loaded up with tuna.  A good catch they had.  Well we off loaded everything and everyone, went and changed oil and put enough fuel on board to last us a while and left on our Bogart construction 2 day charter.  We got a good enough jump to fish a few hours before dark in the latest hot tuna zone but hot it was not.  The fishing there in the morning was good but it took a dump late morning and on.  We wound up catching 3 tuna before dark.  Obviously we're hoping for a good morning tomorrow and we're also hoping the bite stays on for longer then it did today.
       
 

Hello Everyone, Today we spent the day chasing Fin Whales and bird schools, there were very nice schools of Yellowfin associated with them. Tuna ranging from 8 lbers to 40lbs! there were defiantly some nice fish mixed in. In addition to that there were some Dorado around. Lots of life making for an exciting day. We will be chasing these fish again tomorrow, wish us luck. Will report back then, Team Supreme

Tax evasion. Today had a slow start but really heated up after noon. It was more of the same when it came to the sharks, but the second half of the day we really got on these fish when we had the opportunity. Pulling hard the whole time and bringing in some nice fish through the sharks. Here we have Aiden with a great Tuna he was able to pull away from the tax man! (aka Shark) Way to get on him Aiden!

Nov. 12

Not too much to report today, but we got our lines in the water, and ended up with a few varieties of fish chilling in the refrigerated sea water. We ended up at sort of a one-stop-shop in that we caught the three species that we were targeting all on the anchor. That is not typical fishing, down this way. We usually find the fish one species at a time. Half the boat caught a wahoo today so that's not a bad start and we caught quite a few 15-30 pound yellowtails too with a handfull of call them 25-40 pound tuna as well. Weather continues to be nice, with a bit of wind that popped up later on in the day. It was great to finally use some of that tackle today, that we've spent so much time rigging over the past few days. Now we can get down to the serious business of (hopefully) catching some creatures from the deep blue sea to bring home, and share with our families at the dinner table.All is well aboard the Polaris Supreme, and it's first call for our evening meal consisting of pork chops, apple sauce, and assorted goodies. San Diego regulars Eli Malfavon and Elmer Mun display a couple nice yellowfin they landed in our all day drift. We stopped the boat once for 103 yellowfin and 27 skipjack.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update

After yesterday's tough day the pressure was on to find a school. Upon entering the warm water pocket it wasn't but a few minutes until Tommy came across a school and the lines went out. The bite started out slow then became consistent on those larger yellowfin. After a while the bluefin filled in and the bite matured into a plunker lasting through lunch. Several dorado added color to the mix and then it was trolling lines out as we went searching for another school. Single strikes on tuna and dorado was all we could produce for the rest of the day. These tuna are coming up gorged on small squid, so they must be feeding down deep and occasionally popping up to the surface. Tomorrow it looks like the weather will be on our side, and perhaps the fish gods will smile on us as well.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in at 4:12 PM with a wrap-up from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today we had 19 anglers catch 53 Yellowtail and 93 Red Rockfish. We had very good Winter fishing at the Coronado Islands Today with Captain Cameron Cribben at the helm. We caught Yellowtail using all four techniques: surface iron, yo-yo jigs, fly-lined baits and dropper loop!
We are a go tomorrow with a light load!
