Keep Cool when it gets HOT and HEAVY! We had fantastic Yellowfin Tuna fishing today. They bit very well and grade was excellent. 15-25 lbs average with 35-40lbers mixed in. The only thing hotter than the fishing was the Baja sun. Pictured here is chef Mike bring water to crewmen Ben and the rest of the passengers during a hot bite. Capt Matt and the boys are engaged with a school of bluefin. They currently have 7 on deck and few more hanging. The fish they have landed so far are 25-35 lbs. I’m sure the big boys are watching and waiting for their opportunity to bite someone’s light line. Come prepared with a 25 lb setup a 40 lb setup and a setup capable of landing a fish over 100 lbs. the variety of available fish sizes creates a bit of a pickle but trust me when I tell you. You want to use heavier than needed equipment rather than the opposite.

 The pressure is off.  We never made it down to any Island today like we planned.  At about 9 am or so the sonar went clunk, clunk and we went sideways for an hour.  It wasn't the best grade but it definitely wasn't the worst.  It was this years middle grade. 8-14 pounds with a sprinkling of 16-22 pounders in the mix.  Like I said, not the best but not the 2-6 pounders either.  But for a stressed out 4 day captain, it was lovely.  They bit good for about an hour and then they backed off.  After that we dedicated ourselves to that zone.  We figured that school of 14-25 pounders was just right over there.  It wasn't.  We didn't see another school of tuna.  However, we did find a nice kelp loaded up with big yellowtail.  They bit really well for a while too.  In fact , they were on the corner like tuna get on the corner for a good 20 minutes and when they backed off the corner, they still bit good for a while.  Other then that though we didn't see much other then the occasional small tuna on the trolling jigs but we're stoked for what we got today.  The pressure is off.

 We're going to stick with the plan and spend tomorrow at an Island hopefully drifting for hours.  The weather has finally backed off after a couple weeks of blowing.  Hopefully we get some descent weather for a nice long stretch and can get back to fishing where we please when we please.
     

Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute with this report. "We have 35 Bluefin for this stop and we're right around 60 for the day. Yellowtail fishing has been very good as well. We're at about 100 on the Yellowtail and a few Dorado. The Bluefin is up to about 70 lbs. A lot of the the is in the 15 to 25 lb. range. We still have some daylight left, we'll keep you posted.

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out Seaforth Sportfishing, we just finished up our second trip of the year. And boy was it a good one, we had Mexican limits of 110 Yellowtail for our 22 anglers. Most fish were caught on the yoyo jig, we did get some on the surface irio but you had to wotk hard for the surface bite. Hello Everyone, We had another nice day today. Mainly catching good Yellowtail and Bluefin. It was a slow pick in the morning and slowed around lunch time. The second half of the day we focused on the larger tuna. We were able to get one bite, unfortunately the hook pulled. Slower action on the larger fish today. Tomorrow we will be switching gears to Kelp patty fishing. In hopes of Dorado and Yellowtail. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 10-02-2018 Today was absolutely gorgeous weather! We had good current, the water temperature, the water color was fantastic. Yeah I know you see it coming! We only caught 15 yellowtail for the day. Great sign and great conditions the fish just were not there. It looks like we're going to get a great day of traveling tomorrow. We're finished up and heading for home! Tomorrow will be a breakdown cleanup get ready for the dock day on Thursday. The guys have a beautiful catch to unload. The Polaris Supreme Crew!
