montana Fishing Report 2025

Hello everyone, Today we spent the day Wahoo fishing. It was a pretty slow day, conditions were poor and the current was not happening in our favor. We scoured the grounds for only a few Wahoo and Dorado. There were a few Marlin mixed in as well. Defiantly not good enough to keep us here tomorrow. We are off to try for tuna tomorrow. July 18
    We had an action filled morning today.  The yellows were biting good.  The only downside was it didn't last long.  For whatever reason breakfast only lasts an hour and a half.  We found another area that we worked on for a little bit then it went down.  After about 10:00 in the morning things were lifeless here until 5:00 this evening.  We had a couple shots at them before dinner was over for the fishies.  We're going to stay the night and hope things change here for the better.  We're hoping breakfast lasts longer and that there will be a lunch.  Theres plenty of fish around here when they're up and the grade of fish is wonderful so we want to stay.
                                

 

Covered a lot of water for 6 yellowtail. Saw both bluefin and yellowfin but we’re unable to connect. Getting the lay of the land and putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Back at it tomorrow.

The Pacifica returned from a 2-Day 976-Tuna sponsored trip.

Good evening everyone, We spent the day traveling up the line through some snotty weather. However it did ease up after dinner. Hopefully we have the makings for a nice night of sleep tonight before our 530 am eta tomorrow morning. This was a tough trip but everyone kept their head up and persisted through and fished hard the entire time. Although we only had a few windows of biting fish we made the most out of it. There were many familiar faces on this charter and many new faces who decided to join us. We enjoyed having all of you out with us and look forward to seeing you out with us net year. Ok guys I just got the final report from captain Brian Kiyohara. Brian has been driving the San Diego occasionally while the American Angler is shut down. Brian reported seeing 5 or 6 really nice schools of yellowtail today. Most of the schools would pop up to the surface long enough to get the binoculars on them but would vanish by the time he got the boat to them. We have seen this behavior in the past. A mid-day drift however did produce 3 bites from these 15-20 lb. fish. In the end the final talley for 24 anglers was 2 yellowtail 9 barracuda and 1 calico bass. Like I mentioned in my earlier report, these fish should bite better with the improving weather. The coastal eddy that we have had for 2 1/2 days is breaking down. Looks like a lite load tomorrow, make those resos and come on down.

2 yellowfin 12 yellowtail and limits of mahi. One stop shop on the dorado in the morning and very encouraging sign of yellowfin in the afternoon, just could not get a school of tuna to stick to the boat. Excited to see what happens in the near future.

 How about this... Today was awesome! We fished the yellowtail grounds today and it worked out. From about 8 am to 4 pm we were hot and loaded! 14- 28 pounds was the grade and they were snapping. After a slow couple of days like we had iit was perfect. Long drifts with 1-6 fish always on the line. Very little moving. Mostly all drifting and catching. Smiles for everyone and relief for some, myself included. It was a fun day. Windy as heck but we still drifted well and nobody cared. We left at 4:30 because the fish weren't really in the mood anymore and we wanted to gain some latitude to extend our fishing time tomorrow.

 

 We'll be offshore tomorrow hunting for yellowfin tuna. We're stuffed with the Jacks and now we want tuna. Wish us luck back home. Here we go...
