64 yellowtail 2 bonito 1 barracuda. A few quick opportunities today.

Capt Ryan checked in from the San Diego to report that they finished yesterday's trip with 111 Yellowtail. We got a lot on the yoyo iron as well as the surface iron and flylined baits. Make sure you bring all your Yellowtail gear to be prepared, a 40 lb rig, a 25 lb bait rod and a surface iron rod.  I think I'm going to start naming my reports.  This one is called "We should have stuck with the game plan".  The plan was to start where we did, and if it didn't look good run up 40 miles to the next spot arriving just after lunch when it's bite time there.  Well we started off slow.  Conditions were a little funky.  We saw some fish, but they didn't really bite.  We caught a few yellows and the biggest ling cod I've ever seen brought up on this boat, but it wasn't good enough to stick around.  So we started off sticking with the plan when we left and went north but then we decided to do some radio fishing.  I heard 4th hand and then 3rd hand that a boat had a couple really good dorado kelps the day prior almost in striking distance and then really good yellowtail in the afternoon definitely in striking distance.  Then I saw on my water temp chart that same water just a few hours below us so we made the move.  Obviously by my whining you can tell it didn't work out.  We didn't find much kelp in the good water.  We found one OK kelp but we only caught a handful of flats.  There was a few wahoo swimming around it but we didn't catch any.

 So that's OK.  We're not worried.  We still have yesterdays afternoon yellowtail hot spot to fish.  Not today.  Should have been here yesterday. Maybe that should be the name of the report. We saw some and caught a few but it was nothing good.  So here we sit.  I'm not sure if we stuck with the game plan that it would have worked out.  There already was a boat on the spot we were headed to and it's kind of a one boat spot so maybe we didn't miss anything.

 It's funny.  I haven't written this long of a report in a long time.  If fishing was good today I probably would have written one paragraph.  I needed to rant.  Anyways we're going to stick it out here and regroup and try it again in the morning.  Hopefully we find some yellows to work with but either way we plan on looking for a dorado kelp in the afternoon.  Hopefully I only write one paragraph tomorrow.
       

 

Late Post .... Sorry my Internet was dead today. Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning with good fishing. He had 53 fish of the kelps by 9 AM.

Polaris Supreme Update 11-02-2012

 

 

Today we traveled up past the Ridge and Alijos Rocks. The Guys have plenty of wahoo so we decided to leave any wahoo at the Rocks for one of the other boats in our code group who is going to be their later in the day. We wish them good luck. I have been very reluctant to bring it up but our weather has been and is fantastic so far and is forecast to be so for the next few days. And on another good note our speed going up the line has been great and we will easily make our ETA of 8:00 hrs. on Sunday morning. We will see all you Lady's who have chosen to make the 4 hour round trip to see your husbands their. The crew finished scrubbing the last major section of the boat and only have a little fine tuning for our next group The OTR Gang ( Ocean Tackle Research ). George has given me the ok to use up a couple of hours of our spare time to go looking for flying fish for kite bait next trip, wish us luck and thanks in advance George. The gang has just been kicking it. Charlie is trolling and has caught 1 dorado, Jer Bear is more like sleepy bear, George is making lists for his next trip. I don't think it has any thing to do with fishing because it had sluice box on it. Gunner has watched Jack Ass 3 Way too many times. Craig has been doing computer work and hanging with JC and Charlie on the aft deck. Brad, Bernie, Scott, and Bill are like ground hogs you just don't know how long they are going to be up for meals before they go back down napping. I went through over 1,000 pictures and came up with about 250 that I will put up on the web sight and our face book page on Sunday morning. I will warn you now that it's mostly guys cocktails cigars and sun sets. I can't believe we caught so many wahoo and I think their is only 2 wahoo pic's.

Well that's about it Eating very good still 4 meals a day. Sometimes we even have 10 zies and 2 zies. ( Ya Ya Richie I know that as well as other words I made up are spelt rong.) Getting caught up on the zzzzzz's. Thanks for tuning in Team Supreme.

Hello everyone, Today we fished in yellowtail country. Fishing was good, we managed to piece together a nice day on these quality yellowtail. All very good size fish ranging from 15-28 lbs, with the dropper loop and yo yo iron being the hot ticket. We were able to scratch at yellowtail for most of the day until we had to start making our way to San Diego. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

Captain Mike Pritchard checked in at 8:15 AM with an audio update from the Tribute out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We have been drifting since 6:30. We have 8 or 9 hanging right now. We have had a bunch of casualties due to old line or locked up drags. We have had some quality action so far today. Our next trip is a light load. Come on out fishing with us for trophy Bluefin Tuna.

Yesterday we went out with 21 anglers. Final fish count for the day was. 2 lingcod 9 sheephead 67 red rockcod 132 miscellaneous rockfish. We fished deep water in the morning and shallow water in the afternoon. We are scheduled to fish everyday. Make those reservations and come join us.
