We are rolling down today, mainly a rigging day. We are trying to get all of our gear ready for the rest of the trip. From wire leaders to dropper loop rigs we are getting it all set up for the 7 days to come.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with the Coronado Island reports. Today we went out with 36 passengers 43 Yellowtail. There are two bodies of fish out at the islands. There is a school of 23 to 30 pounders and another school of 11 to 17 pounders. The fish are biting the fly-lined sardines and mackerel. And for those who like fishing iron the surface iron is working too. The San Diego departs daily from Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay. Good evening everybody. A fine night of traveling made for good speed as we arrived to our destination first thing this morning with high hopes of finding some wahoo and some tuna. We managed to find some sign of wahoo and we even caught a few while trolling around. Good grade of 'hoo as well, a couple pushing 45 lbs. for sure. Anyhow, the action wasn't RED hot, but we did catch a few skin and we also saw a little bit of sign on the tuna-fish. Although wahoo gets us as excited as any other fish, we just don't see the sign that would lead us to stick it out another day here. With the exception of the few handfuls of wahoo and the few small tuna we caught, there just isn't any spectacular sign of fish here. One thing that is spectacular, the weather. Another day of flat seas, light breeze, and sunshine, and with sunshine comes more bronzing, and a few of us did that too. In time, this area will produce but it's just not right now.

On the second of May we hauled the boat out of the water and started boat work and today on the 10th of June we are still hard at it. Our main goal this year is cosmetics we have painted the whole exterior of the hull above and below the water line the inside boat works the house bait tank storage racks and the wraparound and the decks. We're now starting on interior cosmetics carpeting all the floors ceilings and walls of the whole boat. Quite the extensive maintenance definitely the most boat work we have ever done at one time.

"The X-Raps were working real good on the slide," said Polaris Supreme skipper Tom Rothery July 21 at Fisherman's Landing. "It seemed like the best colors were silver or bonito color. The zucchini colored skirted jigs were working real good on the troll. Fishing was good; we got enough fish, with good yellowtail at the islands and good albacore fishing offshore."
David "Sammy" Samuelson of San Diego won first place on the trip, for his 37.4-pound albacore. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 hook tied to 30-pound P-Line, a Saiwa reel and a Calstar six-foot rod.
Bob Pollack of San Diego won second place for a 33.4-pounder, and Dick Emerson of Rowland Heights won third place for a 32.8-pound albacore. Jonathan Kendrick of Oakley stood in with the winners to show his 37-pound dorado, caught on a Zucker's jig in Mexican Flag colors.
