Captain Mike Pritchard called in this afternoon with an update from the Tribute. We are having very good Yellowfin Tuna just South of San Clemente Island. There is a mix of Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack, and Dorado. We have 180 Yellowfin Tuna and they are biting on everything. Hey guys Ryan from the San Diego here! Today we went out with 25 passengers and caught 15 yellowtail. The style of fishing we are doing right now is a lot like offshore fishing. Lots of driving and looking. Our crew has been burning there eyes all day in the binoculars. Those who have patience and are willing to put in the work have been rewarded with a very large yellowtail. In the past 4 days we have caught 5 fish over 30 lbs. Our bites have been coming on both yo-yo and surface lures. Grab some fresh 40lb. mono and come on down .

Tommy Rothery brought his Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 17 after the best five-day trip to Guadalupe Island so far this year. Rothery's anglers had an excellent catch of larger yellowfin from the big island, and a couple of wahoo. The luckiest angler on the Eric Rogger trip may heave been Dean Hendrickson of Chatsworth, who got a non-eligible (assist from a deckhand) 110-pound tuna on a sardine and 40-pound line, and a 47-pound wahoo, on a black and purple small Marauder. Phil Bruce of Ramona won first place, for a 105-pound yellowfin. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 40-pound P-Line and 40-pound fluorocarbon leader, a Cal Sheets-treated Penn 12 T reel and a Seeker 660 rod. Supreme regular Dietmar Kruger of Santa Monica was second, for an 87-pounder he got on 40-pound line, and Alex Rogger of Steamboat Springs, CO won third place, for a 79.2-pound yellowfin tuna. Stephan Kruger of Venice Beach took the trip's best yellowtail, a 39-pound mossback, on the kite with a squid for bait. "He hit it like a massive tuna," said Kruger, "there was a huge explosion in the water under the kite."

Aug. 21

We had a good morning today. We managed to be the lucky boat and found a school of bluefin that stuck with the boat and we were able to scratch at them for several hours before having to move. The grade of fish was all mixed up from 15 pounds up to 40 pounds. After that we searched a lot of water and only found 1 school that wouldn't have anything to do with us. It just swam away. There were a few other schools in the area for other boats that did the same thing.

The weather today was OK in the morning then breezed up pretty good in the afternoon and then it backed off at dark. The forecast was down graded from what it was calling for and is now showing pretty good weather for the next few days so we're stoked about that. We hope they're right this time.

We're currently heading for the yellowfin grounds due to the poor reports in the yellowtail grounds. There will be a few of us looking around there tomorrow so hopefully we'll be able to get them located.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 09-08-2019 What a sweet ride down we've had beautiful weather! Made good speed and had a nice early arrival this morning into the fishing grounds. Fishing started off tough. Actually it was brutal! You would catch and release 30 skipjack just to catch one keeper yellowfin tuna. We would catch a Wahoo here and there to spice things up but it just wasn't working. Finally after 10 hours of get in all jacked up, AKA skipjack, Things started going our way. It was like somebody flipped a switch! For the next four hours we had a very consistent bite on quality yellowfin tuna ,right into the dark. Our weather stayed great all day and were going to try our luck here again tomorrow. The Polaris Supreme Crew!

OK back to boat work! At this stage we are priming the deck and filling in the holes. Or I should say the Painters are.

18 pass. 20 bluefin tuna from 60-80 lbs. Excellent opportunity to hook and land a trophy fish on 40 lb flyline bait with a 1/0 circle hook. 160 gram Flatfalls fished on 60lb was also working well.
