Capt Mike Pritchard just called in an on the water report from the Tribute, as of 8am this morning we have 40 Bluefin Tuna on the deck from 30 - 40 pounds. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-23 to 25-2019 We arrive this morning from our three day trip. We left last Sunday with very high expectations. Only to get them crushed over the next three days. There had been a week straight of fantastic yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna fishing. It all came tumbling down on Sunday. We definitely hit things on the backside at the very bottom of the bell curve. We managed to scratch up a few nice tuna after getting an early start out on Sunday but all the big hits came that morning. Monday we were able to find one school of good grade yellowfin tuna that stayed with us a while that gave us hopes for the rest of the day being good fishing. It didn't turn out that way though we only picked up another handful of fish throughout of long day of searching. Tuesday we had plenty of action but it was mostly on skipjack in the morning with a mix of smaller grade yellowfin tuna. We hammered out the day until dark with not much luck. As we all know It makes a huge difference on timing when you get out to the fishing grounds we just missed it by a few days. We had a great group of anglers that stuck with us Trying hard all throughout the three days. A four hour drift, followed by 2 quick stops resulted in 39 bluefin from 30-60 lbs and 28 yellowfin from 20-50 lbs. staying at the rail and fishing either a flyline sardine on 30 or 40 lb. A 60-100 gram colt sniper or flatfall or a 2-4 oz torpedo sinker with a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hooks is the name of the game. Keep em wet !

Today capt. Ray went out with 46 passengers and caught. 8 yellowtail 3 lingcod 2 sheephead and 118 rockfish. The yellowtail are still around but they only got active for about an hour today. Cold water yellowtail can be very moody. Timing is everything when it comes to catching these 59 degree water fish.

Hello and good morning! We will be pulling into the dock in a couple of hours off of our 3 day open group. The fishing was tough and you had to work hard to put a fish on board. This group was one of the hardest fishing and courteous toward each other group I have ever fished with. Good job Katrina and Guy's . We will be at the dock for 3 days before resuming our season. June 27

Today was a slow day on the ocean if you were a sport boat. It definitely wasn't a float day. Most of the day for us was spent in fish mode and not catch mode. A lot of hunting with the occasional onesie or twosie on yellowfin jig strikes. We did find one kelp among many that had a good school of a good grade yellowtail on it that wouldn't bite. We caught half a dozen or so but we should of had many many more judging by how many were on it. We also bumped into a school of yellowfin that charged the boat and looked very eager but the darn things wouldn't bite a bait with a hook in it. Not the day for biting fish. Too bad.

 

The weather was for the most part OK. A little windy and choppy in the morning and the same thing in the evening but the stretch in between was nice. We're headed back to the dock and we'll be heading back out tomorrow on a 5 day. I hope things change and guess what? They always do. It's the one thing you can bet on in the fishing world.
