We had a slow day today. The morning seemed promising. We caught a little but we saw a whole lot. If just one of those schools we saw this morning wanted to bite a little we would of had a great day. That seems to be the deal this year though. Today, we hit the wrong schools. We caught about 20 ish this morning from 30-50 pounds. The afternoon stunk. We ran in to where we finished up last night and it was muerto. We ended up in an area late that had mucho fish but unfortunately they were all small. We didn't even try them. It wasn't worth wasting our precious sardine for.
The good news about not catching much fish this afternoon is we still have some of a tank of sardine left to fish with this morning. It's 4:00 AM as I write this and we just finished up with our attempt at bait making. We caught plenty of bait, but it wasn't a good size for the tuna that's out here so we're going to try and make some lemonade here. We're going to take our big spanish mackerel and take it to where the 150+ pound bluefin live. We'll do this after we run out of sardine this morning. No one has tried that cow BF with a couple tanks of spanish yet. Maybe that's the key to it all.
The weather remains great. We had a few hours this afternoon where things were getting interesting. We had a descently strong wind out of the southeast and with it came some rain. It wasn't all that neat but it didn't last long. Things went back to butter. Nice.

Apollo docked December 9 at Fisherman's landing after an eight-day trip with just 11 anglers, who visited Alijos Rocks for some nice tuna fishing with skipper J.J. Gerritsen. Many large yellowtail were also caught.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-07-2016
Hi Supreme fans,
Well it seem like the bluefin tuna decided to sleep in this morning. But the squid didn't, Before the crack of dawn we had plenty of squid under our lights that we scooped up for our morning bite. But only one lone 25 pound yellowtail took our offerings. Chef Mike called "first call for lunch" and that's all it took for the bluefin tuna to bite! From lunch time until first call for dinner we had steady action of bluefin tuna from 60 to 80 pounds! Once again Gary Jones would battle one for well over 3 hours and defeat a 80 pound bluefin just before we call it a trip. What a way to end a great trip.We turned the boat towards San Diego with a outstanding catch of bluefin tuna chilling in our RSW!!

Capt Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego with a trip wrap up for their 41 anglers to report that they caught 135 Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. They were biting on the flylined sardines and the surface jigs, we also a few on the yoyo jigs, pretty good fishing today. We will be back at it again tomorrow, get down here and get in on this hot action.

Fishing today was absolutely excellent! The albacore bit all day and the weather has laid down and is good. All the albies range in the 25 to 30 lb range. For lunch we had swordfish in a butter, lemon, caper cream sauce and for dinner we had a rack of lamb with a blue cheese port wine sauce. Yummy! A couple of boats headed to Guadalupe to no avail. We still have a spot here and there on some of our upcoming trips. Give Susan a call in the office if you can get away and come fish.
