Hi friends. Well, here we are. Fingers to the keyboard once again and anyone who knows me, knows that I can't type without jamming out to my Wiz Khalifa! Anyhow, Team Supreme; living the dream, one nautical mile at a time. Yep. Our maintenance period is complete and we are bound for greater points south. Chef Schooler just kicked out the prime rib and all the passengers and crew are fat and happy. With that being said, you know it's our first night back on the boat and we're kicking off our 2013 Summer season with our amigo Archie and his Motley Crue that he's invited along with him. Here we go...

We departed Fisherman's Landing this morning and headed to the bait receivers to load up on some sardines, mackerel, and anchovies. With that, I'd like to say two things: One - I would want no part of being a bait boat skipper right now. No part. Those guys are busting their you-know-whats to load our wells with sardines and it's not easy going right now. Kudos to those men. Two - I've now witnessed a bait-making seminar on a five-day trip. Is this 1992? I feel like I'm a part of history. When the bait loading gets tough, the tough get sabiki rigs. One could moan and groan forever about what we don't have but as Jed and Sweet Georgia Brown like to say "ain't nobody got time for that!" Anyways, we've got an OK load of bait and we'll see how those little critters live in the morning.

We'd like to use said sardines, mackerels, and anchovies on some bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, and yellowtail tomorrow so we'll be in the hot offshore zone seeing if we can't put our bait to good use. I'd like to say a word about the bluefin fishing other than how much I love it: a boat caught a 175 lb. bluefin today and had the same size fish jumping around the boat. Bring the appropriate gear! Don't go elephant hunting with a .22. Bring yourself a two-speed reel and fill that bad boy up with some 50 or 60 lb at least!

Man, I'm all over the place tonight. So, back on track. We're going offshore fishing tomorrow, the weather is lovely, and everyone is pretty lit up right now and ready to pull on something. We'll see what tomorrow brings and we'll report it to you ASAP, you know that.

Before I go, one last bit of nonsense. Jed was attacked by a seal today. It was hilarious. The bait receivers are no joke, they've got this one knothead that has no fear and although I saw no fear in the seals eyes, I saw plenty in Jed's and I laughed. Next thing you know--after Jed nearly trampled me--his  eyes locked with mine and it was on! But, I was laughing so hard at Jed's reaction that I couldn't move and just like that, he vanished. Although we're clear of scars on our bodies, we're emotionally scarred and we're now damaged goods. Hopefully, we can recover and be able to load bait in peace with our friendly pelicans. Anyhow, that was my favorite part of the day and I had to share with everyone. Classic.

Alright, enough of my babble. Mark's driving, Springsteen on the Ipod, and we're talking about the glory days. Mark has a few more glory days under his belt because he's 97 years old but I've got a glory story to tell as well. We're out.

Polaris Supreme Report 07-22-2016 Happy Friday everyone! We elected to stay the night at the same place as yesterday, in hopes of another action packed day of yellowtail fishing . We got the anchor down and started fishing around 5:30, to stage ourselves for the morning hit. As the misty morning came upon us we began to hook some nice yellowtail. We were finally starting to hit our stride when the fish quit biting. As the sky cleared it seemed as the yellows did too. We tried several spots that amounted to a slow pick throughout the day. Unfortunately we finished off the day without the wall to wall action yellowtail hit we were hoping for. However we still scratched up some quality fish. We feel very fortunate to have had such a great day of fishing yesterday. After fishing hard into the early afternoon we finally set a course for Point Loma to and wrap up this great 5 day trip. We have smooth sailing for the ride up and are looking at 7:00 am at the dock. We currently have a four day online departing August 2nd that still has a couple openings. Still plenty of room on tonight’s limited load 1 day trip aboard the Tribute. Trip is $230 and will be fishing for Bluefin, Yellowfin and Yellowtail. Make sure to bring gear from 25-80 pound, assorted fluorocarbon, jugs and sinkers.

Today our passengers made it thru the strong south wind, fought off the morning sickness, and were rewarded with 93 yellowfin tuna and 108 skipjack tuna. Our schools would go back and forth from aggressive to line shy. A wise angler would have a variety of line sizes from 20 to 50 lb. small hooks are very important. Size 2 Mustad 94150 or something similar.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-08-2016 Hello and good morning anglers. We departed today on Bill Stephens annual five-day charter with 23 happy anglers. A quick stop at the bait receivers netted us a nice load of sardines. We are currently heading south in good weather and looking forward to starting fishing tomorrow.  The pressure is off.  We never made it down to any Island today like we planned.  At about 9 am or so the sonar went clunk, clunk and we went sideways for an hour.  It wasn't the best grade but it definitely wasn't the worst.  It was this years middle grade. 8-14 pounds with a sprinkling of 16-22 pounders in the mix.  Like I said, not the best but not the 2-6 pounders either.  But for a stressed out 4 day captain, it was lovely.  They bit good for about an hour and then they backed off.  After that we dedicated ourselves to that zone.  We figured that school of 14-25 pounders was just right over there.  It wasn't.  We didn't see another school of tuna.  However, we did find a nice kelp loaded up with big yellowtail.  They bit really well for a while too.  In fact , they were on the corner like tuna get on the corner for a good 20 minutes and when they backed off the corner, they still bit good for a while.  Other then that though we didn't see much other then the occasional small tuna on the trolling jigs but we're stoked for what we got today.  The pressure is off.

 We're going to stick with the plan and spend tomorrow at an Island hopefully drifting for hours.  The weather has finally backed off after a couple weeks of blowing.  Hopefully we get some descent weather for a nice long stretch and can get back to fishing where we please when we please.
     

Sep. 8

We woke up this morning on the drift. I heard Tommy doing the stop and go on his watch early in the morning meaning he was seeing schools. He woke the rest of us up bright and early and it didn't take too long before we started hooking fish. They were the 15-18 pound bluefin and they weren't biting as well as you'd think they would judging by all the fish around the boat. We kept drifting though trying the patient mode. It's a lot easier to be patient with non biting fish when the other boats aren't getting stops. After a while and a few handfuls of BFT we gave up on these fish and went searching for some new ones. It took a while but around lunch time we found a nice big fat kelp and it was an aquarium underneath. Good viewing and catching on lot's of different fish from small throwback yellowtail to small tuna and tuna up to 32 pounds and lots of dorado. Yes it's that time of year. The water warmed up considerably in the last week or so and with that came schools of yellowfin and now the dorado in numbers. We'll take um. Crowd pleaser's is what they are and you know us, we like to please crowds. After a couple hours fishing there we went searching for something new unsuccessfully so we ended up back on our kelp and caught some more dorado and a few more tuna. We're now headed for the yellowtail grounds and everyone is fat and happy and we're planning on some good pulling on big yellows tomorrow.

I ate the escolar again substituting it for the prime rib in the fajitas we had for lunch today. It was smooth sailing John and I mean that in a good way. No problems down there. The fish isn't the best fish in the ocean. The flavor is great though the texture is a bit soft. Opening day for pro football so I'll leave you with this. Go Chargers! Let's do some competing this year. My Pad's couldn't do it so now it's up to you guys. Come on now!
