Here is my squid report regarding the 2 squid jigs I purchased at the Candy Catcher booth in Long Beach. Went out of Seaforth Landing on the New Seaforth Monday night. We were done in about 1.5 hours ... all the squid you wanted. Started off slow, but within 30 minutes it was wide open. I used the Candy Catcher gold colored 1.5 pound jig it was perfect. I like the action of it sinking compared to the longer jigs. I had both types and tried yours and compared to the other Monster jig. Your's did perform better when squid fishing was slow, but when it was wide, well you know the story from there. I did not lose a squid with your jig and fished buttoned down on my 2 speed. Robert

This past winter the San Diego family lost one of its most beloved members. Mike Morrison known as “Iron Mike” was a dedicated regular who loved chasing bluefin and always kept positive outlook whether he caught one or not. Today his brother landed a 145 pounder and it had Mikes name written on the belly. This fish was one of 18 landed. The other 17 were 60-80 pounders.

11 pass. 2 yellowtail 53 calico bass and plenty of whitefish and rockfish. Extremely light load for tomorrow.

Today we we picked at the quality Tuna we have been after. Many successes before the sharks took their share. The fish were on both live bait and chunk bait. It was nice catching them on the chunk because we were able to use big hooks and heavy line. As opposed to small hooks and light line.

Pictured here is a neat looking Pilot Fish. Really cool looking blue fish with black stripes. They hang out with sharks waiting for bits and pieces from a kill to float back to them. Also pictured is a delicious sashimi spread prepared by chef Mike!

June 27

Today was a slow day on the ocean if you were a sport boat. It definitely wasn't a float day. Most of the day for us was spent in fish mode and not catch mode. A lot of hunting with the occasional onesie or twosie on yellowfin jig strikes. We did find one kelp among many that had a good school of a good grade yellowtail on it that wouldn't bite. We caught half a dozen or so but we should of had many many more judging by how many were on it. We also bumped into a school of yellowfin that charged the boat and looked very eager but the darn things wouldn't bite a bait with a hook in it. Not the day for biting fish. Too bad.

 

The weather was for the most part OK. A little windy and choppy in the morning and the same thing in the evening but the stretch in between was nice. We're headed back to the dock and we'll be heading back out tomorrow on a 5 day. I hope things change and guess what? They always do. It's the one thing you can bet on in the fishing world.

Arrived at our fishing destination today at 9:30am. As soon as we put the anchor down we were going full speed on a very nice grade of yellowtail. The small ones were 16 lbs. and then went up to over 30 lbs. The weather again is beautiful.. We headed up the line and got to where we were going before dark to fish a couple hours for rock cod and then we headed west into the offshore mode. Scallops and fresh yellowtail for dinner. Captain Cameron Cribben checked in this evening with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today we had 17 anglers catch 6 Yellowfin Tuna and 7 Bluefin Tuna (up to 192 pounds). The Yellowfin Tuna were in the 15 to 18 pound class. The Bluefin Tuna were 25 to 35 pounds and we had 2 over 100 including this beautiful 192 pounder. The opportunity to capture a fish of a life time continues.
