Supreme Update

There has been excellent bluefin fishing at 120 to 150 miles the last few days! In response the POLARIS SUPREME is putting the follow two day trips on line to specifically target these fish in this area as well as the yellowtail on the kelp patties in that zone.

"We fished at Cedros Island and we fished on offshore kelps," said Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson July 28. He'd just ended a five-day Catchy Tackle trip with 24 anglers, and was weighing the catch at the Fisherman's Landing scales.
"We got yellowtail, dorado and some non-biting albacore," he added, "and; wow!" The albacore he hung on the scales pushed the numbers up to 41 pounds even. "That's the best one so far this season," I remarked. Henderson high-fived angler Al Brandenburg, who grinned and brought his fish over to the side for some photos. Brandenburg said he got the big longfin on a sardine and a 2/0 Flyliner hook. He used 30-pound Izorline on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Calstar 700 M rod. He won second place in the jackpot. Harvey Rosen of Benecia bagged a 43.6-pound yellowtail on the dropper loop to win first place. "He fought like a bulldog," said Rosen, who used a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook with 60-pound Izorline XXX mono, an Avet 4-2 reel and a Seeker 6460 glass rod to beat his fish in ten minutes. Don Spitzer of Petaluma was third, for a 33.8-pound yellowtail. Chartermaster Wayne Martin hoisted a dorado he said was typical of those encountered on kelps.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-03-2019 We scratched out a few nice grade fish today. We had a couple grouper up to 40 pounds and a few hands full of 25 to 40 pound yellowtail. We have some great pictures of them but we were unable to upload them to the computer from our photo apparatus. We'll work on that and try to get you those pictures tomorrow. The weather and food is great and were hoping for a big hit tonight. I almost forgot we had two really nice 60 pound Wahoo to go with it. Be looking for their buddies tomorrow! Good evening everyone, This morning started early with most anglers fishing a dropper loop before grey light. Fishing was slow with a handful of quality 20 pound class yellowtail being caught with a few nice sized grouper coming over the rail. As the morning progressed, fishing started to pick up with anglers hooking fish on flylined baits, the dropper loop, as well as the sliding sinker rig. A couple of these fish were unwilling to leave their rock homes, and were able to wrap the lines in some of the jagged bottom structure before breaking off. As the sun rose in the sky, we were able to pick off a couple more of these fish before we found the right school. A little before noon, we settled into a school of fish that wanted too bite a little bit better. We were able to keep these fish around the boat for the rest of the day, and would hook a handful at a time as they bit in flurries from 2-7 fish at once. Majority of these yellowtail were in the 20-25 pound class and came off the flylined sardine or mackerel. One 50lb class grouper made its way over the rail which fell victim to a sardine flylined on 30 pound test. With the day winding down, we decided to point the boat toward the kelp zone in order to give ourselves an early shot at some more fish in the morning. Another one bites the dust ! 12 fish over 100 pounds 2 fish over 200 pounds and 23 school sized bluefin. @pennreels are what we use and trust, they have taken a huge part in our success when it comes to these fish. Thank you !!!!

Where'd they go?? We got a few wahoo today, but nothing like yesterday. Our day consisted of scratching away at yellowfin, yellowtail, pargo, dorado, and wahoo on some different spots. Don't get me wrong. It was not a bad day fishing, just not like yesterday. Our weather is still good. Actually it's too hot, the water is 83 degrees. Not bad for the fish, but warm for us. Tomorrow we will be off shore kelping for wahoo, dorado and tuna until it's time to head home and wind up this fantastic trip. It's going to be a great fall season. Thanks for checking in. Well we just traveled all day heading toward the fishing grounds. The passengers worked on preparing their gear and relaxed. We dined on Chicken ala King in puff pastry, grilled zucchini, and saut?©ed carrots for lunch. And for dinner we had an excellent veal shank in a caper sauce with roasted potatoes, baked parmesan tomatoes and salad bar. Thanks for checking in.

Hi friends. Well, our move paid off to go kelping out in right field. We hit a few kelps throughout the day and after weeding through the shaker yellowtail, we were rewarded with some quality yellowtail and dorado currently chilling in the RSW. The gang had themselves a real ball and we're hoping with the good weather forecasted, we'll be able to get on a few schools of tuna tomorrow and finish up the Joe Beck/Bob Vance trip with a bang. We're traveling up the line to hopefully drift up some squid later on tonight. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.
