squid Fishing Report 2025

Howdy folks and good evening. As I left off yesterday we were going to the bluefin grounds today. Well we did and of course it was a different day today, it's fishing. The morning was very slow especially compared to the last 5 days running. Things weren't looking on the up. We left the grounds in search of and found nothing. When we went back to the grounds we noticed boats were drifting and most of them all had a fish or two hanging, so we decided to drift too. And for the next several hours we most always had one or two hanging too.

 

 So after a day and a half we had 5 fish on the boat and things were looking bad, and now there isn't a skunked person on board. We could've doubled our score too if it wasn't for all the casualties but hey, that's fishing. A successful day I say. Great weather helped too. Up until late it was just lovely.

 

So I leave you now not knowing exactly when the next time I'll be writing to you but I can tell you it won't be any later than the 10th so keep checking back or come fishing.

Stopped on a school of tuna large enough to catch 200 but unfortunately we hit them when they were off the bite. We managed to scratch 35 yellowfin on light line bait and poppers.

Had to cover some water, but mid morning the ocean came alive with feeding Bluefin everywhere. We caught 5 and a nice yellowtail. 

Good Evening, Our last day of fishing started off early and i mean 0230 early! with the kites out and everyone soaking baits and dropping jigs down hoping for that early morning tuna bite , a few fish were hooked but won their freedom, Once the sun came up we went into search mode again, We found the wahoo and tuna under bird schools very willing to take our baits with the wahoo began charging the boat in packs, with only a few hours to fish before heading for the cape, We put our fair share of them on the boat before calling it a trip. We are now headed for Cabo! Gunny and Supreme Team.

Myself and the crew would like to thank everyone who joined us for this past season. 2016 will forever be remembered as one of the most unique years. From huge schools of non biting yellowfin tuna to foamers of big bluefin that enjoyed eating surface poppers. This season proves that none of us know anything about the ocean. We will shut down for a month or so to handle our annual maintenance. We look forward to fishing with everyone again in 2017.

Nov. 12

Not too much to report today, but we got our lines in the water, and ended up with a few varieties of fish chilling in the refrigerated sea water. We ended up at sort of a one-stop-shop in that we caught the three species that we were targeting all on the anchor. That is not typical fishing, down this way. We usually find the fish one species at a time. Half the boat caught a wahoo today so that's not a bad start and we caught quite a few 15-30 pound yellowtails too with a handfull of call them 25-40 pound tuna as well. Weather continues to be nice, with a bit of wind that popped up later on in the day. It was great to finally use some of that tackle today, that we've spent so much time rigging over the past few days. Now we can get down to the serious business of (hopefully) catching some creatures from the deep blue sea to bring home, and share with our families at the dinner table.All is well aboard the Polaris Supreme, and it's first call for our evening meal consisting of pork chops, apple sauce, and assorted goodies. Tribute definite run tonight! Departing at 10pm fishing offshore for Bluefin Tuna and Yellowtail. Mexican fishing permit, bait and bunk included.Passport not required.

Today we went out with only 11 passengers. At the end of the day everybody on board had a full Mexican limit of rockfish. Our rockfish today were a nice mix of reds, salmon grouper, whitefish, sheephead and lingcod. The weather was absolutely perfect today.
