lake taupo Fishing Report 2025

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We fished at the Coronado Islands yesterday. It was our first trip at the Islands for a months. We had 13 anglers and we had full limits of Yellowtail on our first stop of the day. We had excellent fishing for Yellowtail, Bonito and Calico Bass. They were biting on surface iron and fly-lined baits.

The loads are light. We had two reservations for tomorrow so we should have plenty of room on the boat.

"Today was another great day of bluefin fishing," wrote Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson June 24. "We found the first school at 6:30 in the morning and we plunked on it again for 5 hours. Plenty of fish came aboard but again the landing ratio was a bit poor. It's a war zone with all the net boats out there. They drive 100 feet from your boat at 15 knots to get at your school."

At Fisherman's Landing June 26, Drew said, "We got rained on a bit yesterday." He weighed the fish, and the hands-down first-place winner was Harv Domsalla of Douglas, WY, with a 73-pound bluefin that came out of a school of albacore. It beat Domsalla up for 45 minutes.

"He kept making runs," said Harv. "I credit the crew for helping me get it aboard. I'm a novice. The other anglers helped a lot, too, by moving out of the way while he waltzed me around the boat about four times."

Harv said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook, with an outfit borrowed from the boat: 30-pound P-Line, a TLD 15 reel and a six-foot rod.

Harry Harms was second, for a 38-pound bluefin, and Bruce Burton of Wildomar won third place for a 37-pound bluefin tuna.

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out of Seaforth Landing to report that the Yellowtail are starting to bite down at the Coronados. Yesterday we had 96 Yellowtail and today we 114 Yellowtail for 30 anglers, come on down the are biting everything. We are getting them on surface iron, yoyo jigs, dropper loops and fly lining baits, the water is very nice and clean. When you come down make sure to bring your passport as it is required.

Limits of dorado and 1 yellowtail. One stop shop on a lucky kelp. Unable to get a picture during our “mahi mayhem” but here’s one of the swordfish we saw later in the day.

Absolutely a great day of fishing. From day light on we had excellent fishing on school grade yellowtail. Our weather is good and everyone is having a great time.  We fished today with all our buds.  Obviously it was the best game in town.  We had boats from San Diego up to Ventura all nestled in sharing the same honey hole.  15 of us to be exact.  It all worked out though.  It was a nice spread of fish.  Everyone was able to scratch.  Scratch, scratch, scratch.  From after daylight until after lunch.  Then things went dead for the most part, so we pulled anchor and found a nice school to drift on.  After a long drift the day was pretty much over.  We drove around, made another anchor job but the fish were done.  Just like us.  We're done for the week.  It's up to you whether or not we fish this next up coming weekend.  Halloween weekend.  See you there?

 Oh, the fish today were tuna.  Yellowfin.  Smaller.  We had a couple handfuls of 30-40 pounders first thing, but as soon as the current picked up, for some reason the bigguns split.  So we stayed busy with the smaller ones.  Veal.  Oh, and they found sardine again.  Loaded up.  So don't worry 10 dayers.
                         

Hello everyone, Today we wanted a Yellowtail topper, and a yellowtail topper we got! By no means wide open, but enough yellows to keep everyone busy for a half a day. The hot ticket was the famed blue and white 6x yo yo iron, tried and true for years and still holding strong today. All and all a nice day of yellowtail fishing to round out a great fall 7 day variety trip. It was really something catching Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, and Yellowtail all in one trip! Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, so after our great Yellowtail topper we pointed the boat northbound to San Diego.
