Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-03-2016 Today was departure day for our Simpatico five day charter with Vernon Burke as our charter head. We got off early without a hitch and picked up some nice bait at the bait receivers. We should make the fishing grounds by 6 PM this afternoon and be able to fish a hour and a half and before dark. We will probably be fishing the large grade Bluefin this trip that is out west of San Diego. This grade of fish is a beautiful size it is 50 to 100 pounds most of it right around 80. This should really test our anglers fishing skills. Wish us luck the Polaris supreme crew.

July 23 Friday After spending all day yesterday searching and not catching our 35 albacore we caught this morning seamed like a bonanza. They shut off at 11:00 and that was that. With the Albacore hit we got on the way down and one of those days fishing Yellowtail one can only dream of, our over all fishing was great. many thanks to our charter head Paul and his great crew of anglers. But he also dose a better job scrubbing and Drew wasn't letting him get out of it. Tommy. July 22nd, 2010 Hello to all. Today we decided to look around at some new territory for the elusive albacore. I'm going to cut right to the chase, fishing was great and catching was terrible. We did see an area of birds/whales that looked promising but we never saw a tuna and that was the highlight of our day. Maybe in time this area will be productive but for now, we know where not to go. The weather is still picture-perfect and our anglers are all in good spirits. We are currently moving up the line to put ourselves in position for a full day of albacore/bluefin fishing for our final day. We'll check back in tomorrow and keep you posted on our day. Richie and Crew. July 21st, 2010 Wow, what a day we had aboard the Polaris Supreme. We arrived at our destination first thing in the morning to find calm seas and a slight overcast. After some scanning around, we located a nice school and within a few minutes we were bent over with yellowtail. It wasn't wide open by any means but it was a very enjoyable pace for our fine group of folks. Around lunch time, we went through a little lull and took full advantage of a chance to rest sore arms, enjoy a glass of water, and get out of the sun for a bit. Oh yeah, the weather was gorgeous. Flat calm with sunshine. The SPF 50 was flowing for sure. Anyhow, after a little break, it was time to go to work again. This go-around, the yellows gave off a much more ferocious vibe and we enjoyed excellent fishing to round out our day. The show of yellowtail was very impressive to say the least. Not many times when we would look into the water and not see free swimming yellowtail everywhere. In closing, we had a very fun day of fishing and we will be sleeping easy tonight. Our plan is to take a look in some different areas for tomorrow and to hopefully round out our beautiful catch of yellowtail with some tuna fish. Thanks for checking in and wish us luck. Richie and crew. July 20th, Good evening everyone, We finally wet our lines first thing this morning and it didn't take us long to get the blood flowing with some Albacore jig strikes. After some short stops for a handful of fish, we found what we we're looking for. We enjoyed a couple of very good stops that kept us busy for the morning. We also threw on a few Bluefin tuna to round out our morning. After lunch, things kind of died down and we decided to head on a southerly course to do some Yellowtail fishing. The cherry on today's sundae was the absolutely beautiful weather. Flat calm, a light breeze, and a nice cloud cover to keep us from getting too toasty. Well thanks for checking up on us. We'll be at the Yellowtail grounds first thing in the morning. Take care. Richie and crew. July 19th, Hi friends, Today we departed on our annual Paul Hess 5 day with 23 of his closest friends. After clearing Point Loma with a beautiful load of bait and an eager group of anglers, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and rigged up tackle. After our tackle seminar, Sandra and Dave Lafferty went to work in the galley preparing a meal fit for kings and queens. Appetizers, clam chowder and Caesar salad. Main course, Fresh salmon and crab cakes with a hollandaise sauce with gourmet macaroni and cheese, asparagus and corn. To top off the meal, we enjoyed homemade cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. To sum it up, it was excellent. The service was top notch as well. Paul and Kyle served it up and Matt kept those dishes sparkling clean. The whole dinner was a thank you from Paul and friends for 10 years of the fine service he's been treated to onboard the Polaris Supreme. From all of us, thank you to Paul and the gang. Hi friends. Not too much to report today on the Polaris Supreme. After the completion of lunch, all we did was pull on bluefin tuna, dorado, and yellowtail. Granted, the dorado's were shin slappers and the yella's were neck ties, but we did weed out a handful of nicer onces and kept the BFT's a comin'. We did see a couple flurries of that smaller 12-15 lb. fish, but for the most part, our grade was a solid 25-30 lb. grade, and they bit very well too.

To give you an idea of how good fishing was, and for some reason, I'm still kind of buzzing about this situation, but after monitoring the anglers on the bow for a while, I couldn't help but toss a line out, as there were boils ten feet from the boat and the angler participation was starting to dwindle as the end of the day was upon us and the cocktails were beginning to flow. Anyhow, I was soaking a bait for a bit, chattin' it up with an angler to my left, and here comes another angler to the bow with a fish that's close to gaff on my right. So, I grabbed a gaff, put my rod in the gaff holder, in gear, and told the angler "If this gets bit (pipe dream), grab it and swap out your rod for the hooked up one." About thirty seconds later, as my anglers fish was getting ready for the death-shot, I hear "Hey Richie! Something is--uh--happening!" Low and behold, the gaff rig is full bendo with line screaming off of it. Wowza! For all this "Bluefin require a stealthy approach and light line", we hooked one up with a half dead bait, in gear, sitting in the rack. Bottom line, excellent fishing. No reason to not tell a little story that I thought was pretty hot.

So that's it. Pretty easy decision for tomorrow's activities as we're going to put out the "sack" and try have a repeat of today tomorrow. Hopefully we connect with a morning bite on the bag and don't have to pull it first thing at 0530 hours. Our weather is just okay, a little breezy and choppy but plenty workable conditions. The offshore beat goes on! Funny how things just seem to work out when you try as hard as possible and keep a positive outlook. 2 weeks ago when the fleet received word that we had to check in at Ensenada in order to fish the Mexican coast. Many boat owners including myself were very concerned about the remainder of the 2012 season. With our backs against the wall and very little options we headed offshore. Our first few trips we scratched at bluefin tuna and yellowtail.

In the past five days we have been averaging 20-40 mixed fish, a nice mix of dorado and yellowtail. Today we had a very welcome visit from an 18 lb. albacore. While the political issues concerning the Mexican coast are being worked on we will continue to fish offshore. These offshore trips are 5:30-7:00 and are limited to 50 passengers cost is $115 and includes a fishing license. Past history shows that the offshore bite should only improve for us as we move deeper into the summer and into fall. Come join us!

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

8 yellowtail and an assortment of bottom critters. Made multiple stops on different schools of yellowtail throughout the day for very little reaction. They are there but currently in a funk. Tomorrow is a new day.

Very similar to last week with the exception of a big yellowtail day. The potential for a big yellowtail score is definitely out there but several things must come together. On Friday I thought we were going to get our shot. We stopped at a spot and instantly had 8 yellowtail hooked and we were seeing a big school around us. While we were fighting our first 8 fish the motherlode of big bull seal ions came in to ruin our fun. When the dust settled we had only landed 3 and the big school was scared away by the cute cuddly seal ions. Water conditions are about as nice as they could be with temperatures ranging from 67-70 degrees and very clean. The calico bass fishing has been good on the days we get anchovies and the barracuda continue to bite very well at times. All and all we had a very enjoyable week catching surface fish in very nice weather. Hot and sunny in flat calm seas catching gamefish describes our current conditions perfectly. Tackle to bring out remains the same. A 15 or 20 lb. rod to fish anchovies a 25 or 30 lb. rod to fish sardines a 40 lb. jig stick and an assortment of hooks (2's and 2/0's) and small egg or rubber core sinkers (1/8-1/2 oz.) will have you covered.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-03-2016 Today we started our first full day of fishing on our annual Hampton four day. We started the morning fishing the beach in search of Yellowtail. Conditions were tough and we opted to head off shore and search the warm blue waters for a nice kelp or a biting school of tuna. We managed to find some nice kelps, with little on them. We managed to some playground grade Yellows and Dorado, but fortunately for them they were all thrown back so we may be able to catch them next year. However we did catch a few adults among the babies, they were a welcome addition to our frigid RSW fish hold. Over all a tough day with fish few and far between. We are making a move south tonight to put us in position for tuna and yellowtail fishing tomorrow morning. Wish us luck, The Supreme Team

Well the weather has kicked up a little and it's a little bumpy. We will be at the dock at 6:00 am tomorrow. Come down and say hi if you can. We will be in until Thursday Nov. 8 when we depart on Lon Mikkleson's OTR charter. There are still spots available if you want to come with us.
