kodiak Fishing Report 2024

Hello Everyone, Today we fished for trophy Yellowtail and Wahoo. The yellows were biting good but most were able to get int the rocks, or get eaten by waiting sharks. We did manage to land some trophy Yellowtail as well as a single large Grouper. There were less sharks later in the evening so we were able to land more Yellows at night. There was very little Wahoo sign as we were driving around, we did manage to troll up one. We stopped fishing around midnight and started traveling up. We will see if we have time to fish tomorrow or the following day, depending on the speed we are making. Will Report again tomorrow , Team Supreme

Tommy Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing July 31 after an open-party trip of five days with 23 anglers. Rothery was enthusiastic about both the quality and the quantity of fish he encountered at the islands and on kelps. Several youngsters were aboard, and they enjoyed catching and releasing yellowtail and dorado, while keeping a few of the larger models to take home. Some of them posed with their catch at the scales. "We released an awful lot of fish," said Tommy. Matt Herrington of Huntington Beach won the jackpot for a 36.6-pound yellowtail that fell for his sardine on a Mustad 91450 hook in the 2/0 size. He said he fished with 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader, 40-pound P-Line, a Trinidad 40 reel and a Calstar six and a half-foot rod. Scott Oberg of El Centro won second place for a 32-pound yellowtail. Steve Algrim of Long Beach took third place for a 26.2-pound yellowtail, and the trip posed at the head of the dock.

Capt Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute on the second day of their trip, we have had very good fishing so far. Yesterday we had around 60 Yellowfin Tuna, 20 Yellowtail, 2 Bluefin Tuna in the 70 pound range, and 1 Dorado, today was more of the same with around 50 mixed fish so far and hopefully more to come. The day started in the dark with some great fishing on quality yellowtail. After daybreak we still had good fishing on the school grade yellowtail with an 18 lb. average until noontime. And then the afternoon took a powder and we couldn't find anything to catch. The weather offshore is rough but we are hiding behind an island and are in good weather. Dinner was a tasty Cornish game hen, fresh veggies, wild rice and a really good hot brownie pudding cake. Thanks for checking in. Tommy and crew

This past week had a little bit of everything. Good fishing in flat calm weather to slow fishing in choppy weather and even some searching for kelp paddies in socked in fog. Our scores this week averaged 3-80 yellowtail 2-10 dorado per day and even 13 bluefin tuna on our Friday charter. Overall I would say that we are experiencing GOOD 3/4 day fishing. Most of our fishing has been taking place between 20 and 40 miles from Mission Bay. Even though our counts have been good , we still have some inherit risks that go along with offshore fishing that you should be prepared for. Whenever we fish offshore , we know that we are taking part in a "high risk , high reward" fishery. Since we are relying on finding kelp paddies in order to find fish , the possibility of never stopping the boat is real. The flip side of never stopping the boat is ; we may stop the boat once and have the best fishing of our lives. With another tropical storm down south , I believe that our fishing is only going to improve over the next month. Typically our offshore season continues until we get the first couple real storms from the pacific northwest. We run everyday , if you would like to join us call 619-224-3383 for reservations.

35 bluefin 8 yellowfin. Long “plunker” drifts were the name of the game today. A rubber banded 4-6oz sinker on 40-60lb line got most of our bites.

We have a Berkley sponsored open charter this Friday. This will be the first trip after Ling cod opens. There will be give away packs for everyone.
