flathead Fishing Report 2025

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

Hi folks. We departed today on an open party 8-day trip with plenty of familiar faces on-board, so it's more like a charter. We picked up a fine looking load of sardines and we'll see how they do on our southerly journey for the next couple of days. For now, everything is good. The seas were flat calm all day and the weather was hot but now, it's a little foggy out but absolutely no sea conditions. We'll take it. The boys just enjoyed a fat piece of prime rib and everyone is sacking out for the night -- fat and happy. Tomorrow morning, we'll knock out some seminars, get rigged up, and see if we can't stumble upon a school of some fat yellowfin and/or fat bluefin throughout our travels.

Anyhow, life is good for now. We're monitoring tropical storm Kristy and as of now, we're looking like she's going to miss us and we're going to have some nice weather in the next couple of days in our zones. We'll see. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-29-2016 Hello good morning anglers. We are already fishing this morning and have four yellowtail to our credit. We have a nice current and are waiting for things to start happening. We left yesterday afternoon with Tom Chaparro's annual five day charter with a limited load of 18 anglers. It is really quite the joy to be able to fish with such a light load on the boat. Most of Tom's guys have been out with us before and are anxious to get at it. We had a nice prime rib dinner last night and Tom and the boys gave our friend Herb Yamanaka a custom-made Oregon Duck's colored raped rod as a thank you for his many years of creating wonderful wood working's in the form of bowls cups salt shakers you name it he made it from different exotic woods and has given them out every trip. I haven't gotten a picture of the rod yet but as soon as Herb catches a fish will make sure you see pictures of both. Thanks for tuning in Tommy and the crew.

 It was a slow day out here today for us.  It was a slow day for many.  But of course it depends on who you talk to, some might say it was a great day.  It all depended on which school you found.  Just like it's been, most schools don't produce, but the few lucky ones do.  We didn't find the lucky one.  Our best school was for 20.  But no matter who you ask, it was a slow afternoon today. After lunch, we didn't find a school till after 6:00.  We're due.

 The weather today was awesome.  Again.  We're going to drift out here tonight and try it again tomorrow.  I thought about doing something different, like hunting bluefin, but it hasn't been very good and our plan B., that being San Clemente island is closed tomorrow darnit.  Plus these yellowfin we're catching are just too beautiful.  Such a nice grade.

 One more day.  We're due.  It won't take much more to get 200 of these things for the trip.  200 of these things would be nice.
        

The Apollo had another successful overnight trip up the coast. They had limits of rockfish. The weather is great and they will be fishing the island tomorrow.

New 1.5 Day Limited Load Trip on The Polaris Supreme Trip. The Polaris supreme has a new 1 1/2 day trip scheduled to depart Sunday afternoon at 6 PM fish all day Monday and return Tuesday morning at 6 AM. We still have six spots open and the trip is all inclusive meals Mexican permits etc. We will be targeting the 15 to 30 pound yellowfin tuna that is outside San Diego.  Good evening everyone and happy Halloween.  Things didn't fair too well for us this morning at last weekends hot tuna spot.  You can tell it was a week closer to November because there were only 4 of us there compared to 15 of us there last week.  Anyways, like I said, things didn't fair too well for us there.  That doesn't mean the tuna weren't there though.  At least one of the boats there did well today.  We didn't have the patience for it today though.  At least not for the veal grade, so we took off at lunch time.  We took off in search of dorado.  And wouldn't you know it, things worked out.  We found three productive kelps this afternoon.  The last kelp almost being a fixer upper.  So it worked out.  We had a good day.  130+ fish day.  That'll do.

 So we'll be in for the week, and we're going to come back out here again next Friday.  We're going to bring along with us the Inside Sportfishing crew.  They want to do an episode so if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we'd love to have you.  And then after that we leave on a 10 day.  So if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we loved to have you then as well.
