dawesville cut Fishing Report 2024

Hi friends. We arrived this morning to Fisherman's Landing on-time and unloaded our catch from the Joe Beck/Bob Vance 5-day trip and big fish honors go as followed: Dan "Re-Ride" Burns and Tim Dughi tied for first with their 30.4 lb. Yellowtail and Uncle Norman Wintjen took third place with his 23.4 lb. Yellowtail. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Joe Beck and the gang for yet another great trip. We'll see y'all next year. Anyhow, we departed on Garry Roberts annual 9-day adventure and Garry has brought along with him the usual suspects and everyone is antsy to see what the southern-most destinations of Baja California Sur have to offer. For a little warm-up, we'll be giving the Bluefin/Yellowfin area a short try tomorrow morning before we continue on to greater points south. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

We departed today on Eric Rogger's annual ultra light load (19 passengers) 5-day trip. Eric always puts together a great group of anglers and this year is no exception. We have a couple of father daughter, father son pairs. This year we have had a few of trips go out with multi generations fishing together and as well as having a great time fishing, they are building great memories together. So we are on the hunt for fish. Our weather is ok. Not flat calm, but it is ok. Tonight chef Jeff pleased everyone with a delicious rack of lamb, with a honey mustard glaze on the side. Good Evening Fisherman, We left the dock early this morning on our annual Holeman 10 day with a great load of mid-sized sardines and very nice weather. We are now making our way down south to the Tuna and Wahoo grounds. We should be arriving to the fishing grounds early Tuesday morning. The majority of the day, after leaving the bay, was spent getting to know everyone and rigging up. Tomorrow we will be giving our famous fishing seminar. There is plenty of leader making and general tackle rigging preparation for the fishing to come. Till Tomorrow, Team Supreme

The day started well. We found a school right after daylight and had a couple good stops on 40 up to 145 pound tuna. The rest of the day stunk besides the weather. We found virtually nothing. When the sun went down I was giving up the hope of an evening shot but right as I had the towel in mid air I snatched it before it hit the ground. We found our late shot. W.F.O. some would say. The bite lasted well into dark. A definite day saver. Let's do it again tomorrow.

27 yellowfin 21 bluefin 27 yellowtail. Shoulder and belly hooked baits work best when fishing picky tuna. The second picture shows where to place your hook. The baits pictured are also a prime example of what a bad bait looks like, taking your time and selecting a good healthy bait will get you more bites.

July 11
 The morning started off so promisingly. We had plans to haul butt down to the lower grounds where there had been some good kelping but we got stopped short. The setup was epic. We had a 1-2 degree water temp break, and we were instantly catching fish. They were mostly small yellowfin. There was a sprinkling of 15-20+ pound tuna in there but most were throwbacks. But it felt like the school of straight bigs was right off the bow. We found a nice kelp and caught a dozen nice yellows and some more of that small tuna with a sprinkle, and again, we felt like it was soon coming. It never came. We stayed very busy but unfortunately it was mostly that throwback yellowfin. Eventually we gave up on what we thought was our honey hole and we never found much else the rest of the day. The lower zone produced enough for the couple boats that were down there so we're going to start down there tomorrow.

 

 

 

The weather was great most of the day. It got a bit breezy late but hopefully that comes down tomorrow.
