Good evening folks. We departed today after a very fast turn around on an 8 day trip. I'm back after 2 nights rest and ready to get back at it with Tommy at the helm. Good weather today along with good food, company, seminars, naps and just good old fashion relaxation mixed with anticipation. We're ready to go here. We're ready to get into battle mode. What we'll be battling is yet to be determined at this point in the night. We're still figuring out where we want to start this journey of long range sportfishing.

We departed today on the Dan Heil Memorial charter with his son Ron Heil as charter head. It's pretty cool to see some of the old faces. Dan's charter has been with me for over 25 years. We were in a panic rush to get out and get to the local fishing grounds before dark. We got about three good hours of fishing and snagged a handful of yellowfin, a bluefin and a beautiful opah. We got into the albacore grounds late in the morning. Most of the guys there already had a mix of around 30 albacore and yellowfin. We struggled and just couldn't find the right school until about 4:00 in the afternoon. Then it was wide open albacore fishing until 6:30. As we sat down to a superb dinner of Veal chops with Port and Mushroom sauce we reflected on what had started as a brutally tough day had turned into a simply great day! We will definitely stay here and try this again tomorrow. Thanks, Tommy

Hello Everyone, Today was a great day on the tuna grounds. We had an un-real sun downer bite on Bluefin Tuna in the 40 lb range. Complete chaos, an absolute ripper on fly lined sardine, until the sun went down. Once darkness settled in, it turned into a Flat fall ripper. Landing the Tuna on the jigs was was much nicer on the heavy gear. In addition to the Bluefin we landed 2 50 lb Yellowfin Tuna. Great grade fish. Excellent day on an excellent charter. Hi friends. Today was a splendid day. We got on a school of those beautiful Bluefin tunas just before lunch and drifted with them until around 1600 hours this afternoon. The grade of fish were those 40-60 lb. beauties and the action on the kite was as good as it gets. The Mustache almost got around to everyone on the kite on just that one stop. They were hittin', boy. Our bait fisher-people did just dandy as well. 50 lb. test with a 4/0 hook, short top-shots, and the liveliest gosh darn Sardine you could find was the key to great success.

Heartbreak of the day went to myself. While getting out a 50/50 wrap with two fish at color, singing Lady Antellbum at a reasonable level, I broke my sour apple chapstick stick. Not cool.

Now that all is said and done, 53 Bluefin rest comfortably in the RSW well that Mustache Man is constantly maintaining between 30 and 32 degrees. He's so responsible. Thanks, Drew.

To top it off, the weather was just dandy and Chef Shawn kept us all fat and happy. Not too much else to report. We're going to give this another try tomorrow and hope that we can get on a school early and drift all day. That's the plan, anyhow. We'll see what happens.

Captain Ryan of The San Diego checked in with a trip report for today.  57 Bluefin(15-60lbs) 14 Yellowfin (15-30lbs). About as good as it gets local Bluefin fishing. A 30-50lb bait rod was all you needed today.
