Limits of Yellowfin Tuna for our 2 day trip and 20 bluefin.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with an update from the San Diego. Today we had 35 anglers catch 9 Bluefin Tuna and 1 Yellowfin Tuna. We are going to stick with offshore fishing thru at least Saturday. We are keeping close tabs on the Coronado Islands but as of today the islands have been slow. Tuna fishing has been far from wide open but we believe the potential for a big hit is there. Fishing changes very fast. Don’t be a part of the “Day after” crowd. Pick a day, Pick a boat and go. No Passports required for offshore fishing.

Skipper Tom Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme after a five-day Stern Hog Chartered trip. The boat's 18 anglers got off at Fisherman's Landing August 8. Chartermaster Tom Chaparro, of San Clemente recalled one offshore stop that produced almost a hundred fish.
"It wasn't even that big of a kelp," said Chaparro. "But it was full of dorado and yellowtail. We had a great time, a good group of guys. This is our ninth year chartering this trip." Ron Rose, of Jacksonville FL took first place with a 31.8-pound yellowtail. Ron used a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook on 30-pound P-Line, a Pflueger Reel and a Calstar 970 rod.

Rich Vandenoord of La Jolla was second with a 30.6-pound yellowtail, and Pat Kennedy of San Francisco was third, for a 30.4-pound yellowtail.
"We had great quality yellowtail at Cedros," said Skipper Rothery, "and one real nice white sea bass. We had that one big kelp bite yesterday, and the tuna are around but they're not bitin'."

Captain Ryan called in late last night to report fantastic fishing conditions on the Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. The fishing were biting live bait. Ryan recommends 25 pound mono with a flurocarbon leader. The fishing are in the 20 to 25 pound class. They were biting really good. Come on down and fish on the San Diego. Hi folks. We departed today on an open party 8-day trip with plenty of familiar faces on-board, so it's more like a charter. We picked up a fine looking load of sardines and we'll see how they do on our southerly journey for the next couple of days. For now, everything is good. The seas were flat calm all day and the weather was hot but now, it's a little foggy out but absolutely no sea conditions. We'll take it. The boys just enjoyed a fat piece of prime rib and everyone is sacking out for the night -- fat and happy. Tomorrow morning, we'll knock out some seminars, get rigged up, and see if we can't stumble upon a school of some fat yellowfin and/or fat bluefin throughout our travels.

Anyhow, life is good for now. We're monitoring tropical storm Kristy and as of now, we're looking like she's going to miss us and we're going to have some nice weather in the next couple of days in our zones. We'll see. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-04-2016 Thanks for checking in, Our morning started off somewhat slow, however as the sun started to rise it got better with more and more fish coming under the boat. After hooking four fish and loosing them all! We knew we were in for a battle with some big mean Bluefin tuna! And when I say big and mean that's just what they were! The average fight time was about 45 minutes to an hour. Our hook to land ratio was 1 in 5 , But after a few adjustments it stated to improve very well. And just in time because right about lunch time the fish really started to turn on big time! At one point I counted at least five going at one time and they were all big fish. After the smoke cleared and most tended to their battle wounds we ended up having a nice day. The Polaris Supreme Crew!

Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute with this report. "We have 35 Bluefin for this stop and we're right around 60 for the day. Yellowtail fishing has been very good as well. We're at about 100 on the Yellowtail and a few Dorado. The Bluefin is up to about 70 lbs. A lot of the the is in the 15 to 25 lb. range. We still have some daylight left, we'll keep you posted.
