Skipper Drew Henderson took a look at the San Benitos Islands on a four-day Polaris Supreme trip with 24 anglers. He arrived in the afternoon to find fair to good fishing and some seals that were hungry but not ravenous. He said his anglers got yellowtail there up to 30 pounds. Next day he fished at Cedros Island.
"We got 80 big ones there," he said, "at the South End." Eric Thomas of Palmdale won first place for a 46.8-pound yellowtail. He bagged it with a sardine on a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook and 50-pound Big Game Line. Thomas fished with a Trinidad 40 reel and a Calstar 6460 H rod. He said he got the big ‚Дтtail in 15 minutes.
Shannon Nutt of Palmdale was second for a 37.8-pounder, and Edward Agadjanian of Glendale, home of Newell reels, said he used a Newell reel to take his third place 34.8-pound yellowtail.

Ryan Bostian called in with this report from the Coronado Islands, "Today we went out with 17 Anglers and we are coming back to the dock with 44 Yellowtail. These Yellowtail are nice sized fish, 15 to 30 pounders."

They are biting the fly lined the baits today. You want to bring down your fly lined gear, your yoyo gear all your Yellowtail gear including surface irons.

Hello Supreme Fans, Today was our first day of fishing after two days of travel. We spent the morning trolling around for Wahoo which seem to have lock jaw. However the tuna wanted to bite, but they were not the grade we were looking for. So right around lunch time we made a 2 hour move which paid off for us. It was game on! biting Wahoo and tuna until first call for dinner was made. The grade of the Wahoo was excellent many fish were well into the 40 lb range even some pushing the 50 lb mark. What a way to end the day of fishing. We plan to stick around here tomorrow and try for these great quality Wahoo again. Also we still have a few spots available on our next 10 day. Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. So after a couple of days if traveling, rigging and getting done with all of the final touches on the gear, we finally arrived at the fishing grounds. The group was definitely eager to get some lines in the water. Our primary target was wahoo to get things started. The area we first started trolling has been notoriously productive over the past few weeks, so we thought that was a great starting point. Not long after we got the trollers back behind the boat, we did get a jig strike. We put a few on the boat that strike, but after that, they didn't really want to get on us so we decided to continue on to other spots. A number of the other areas we looked at seemed to carry the same trend, just not having conditions conducive to catching a wahoo or yellowfin tuna. A major factor in having current, you must have current to catch fish. The beauty of fishing this area though, is having a large number of spots to look at throughout the day. We continued down the line looking, trolling and stopping, but it seemed to be just a little bit of an off day. That being said, we'll make a little over night move and start it all over tomorrow with high hopes. Thanks for checking in and we'll be back tomorrows update. Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-16-2016 Good afternoon guys. Fishing has been tough these last two days. We didn't end up putting any more fish on the boat after that afternoon report. Knowing the fact that the Yellowfin grounds would be crowded with boats today and not seeing a great sign of biting fish, we decided to rig up the big gear and run down to the trophy Bluefin Tuna grounds. We set up the boat early this morning in an area in which we had multiple schools of big Bluefin on the sonar at one time. We ended up hooking two fish and landing one monstrous 118 pound trophy Bluefin Tuna. Both of these fish were hooked on jigs. The second Bluefin we hooked chewed his way through line and escaped. We will be on the hunt for the big Bluefin for the rest of the day. July 7

Today was kind of a disapointing day for me. I had plans of having good fishing in the morning at Cedros then heading to Benitos and having descent fishing there. Well the water got funky on us due to the big south swell that was pushed up from the tropical storm that rode it's way up. It was a green green green and the yellows didn't like it. They were still there like they had been for the last week but they didn't bite well. After 4 1/2 hours we gave up on it and went with plan b. We arrived at Benitos after lunch and I will say we saw a good amount of fish all over the island. The problem was the sea lion population. Those things are out of control right now. It's wierd how it works at that island. Sometimes they're tolerable and sometimes they're not. Today they were not. We're headed back to Cedros now and we'll give it another chance tomorrow. This south swell seemed to back off some late today so hopefully there is some strong current through the night tonight to flush all that icky water out of there.

I just reread what I wrote and it sounds worse than it was. We scratched out an ok day. We averaged over 3 fish per rod. Compared to the last week it was slow but back up further and we had a stellar day. See you tomorrow.

Nov. 10

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to the website of the Polaris Supreme. We're sorry we've been apart for so long but you guys didn't want to go fishing so we had to do other things. Here's a recap of what we did the last few weeks... Jed went to a Slayer concert in Vegas and won a bunch of money. Jed always seems to win lots of money when he gambles. I don't know why he just doesn't do that for a living. Either he's fibbing about the money he makes or he just really loves fishing. Gunny hung around and fished his local lakes a lot after flaking on Jed in Vegas. Shawn had some big plans on getting a new place and a new car while he was off but came back to the boat with neither so he probably had the most fun of us all. Or maybe it was Gringo because he spent his time where he does, Cabo. Tommy and Susan did what they always do which is work, work, work. Mostly in the office but they saved a little bit of time for pleasure mostly around the river. I spent my days either at the boat helping with various projects from minor fixes up to helping the mechanic replace a piston in one of the engines. I also did some work on my golf game which still stinks by the way. And Mark lost one pound while we were off! One pound! Way to go Mark.

But we're all glad to be back out and that's because it's the Lon Mikkelsen and John Esler 10 day trip! Things are always just a hoot out here on the Lon Mikkelsen and John Esler 10 day trip. Lots of return customers out here and a handful of fresh ones too. I love this group. I do. Anyways the boat is running in tip top shape and we're all fueled up and baited up and everyone is currently sleeping with there belly's full of prime rib as I write this on my watch. Fishing sure did sound poor out here the last few weeks but things sound like they're on the upswing as the Polaris Supreme rolls south. Not sure we'll do any fishing tomorrow as we need to keep her rolling down so the plan for now is to have breakfast in the morning and spend most of the day getting all our tackle in the best of shape. The weather just couldn't be better. Flat calm gorgeous without a cloud in the sky. Beautiful! Sweet dreams all.

25 pass. 17 bluefin 16 yellowfin. Most bluefin were 30-50lbs. The savvy angler would bring a 20lb rod and a 30-40lb rod with assortment of hooks from size 4-2/0. We are very light on reservations all next week. Call 619-224-3383 and make those resos. Bluefin is way better than turkey for Thanksgiving.
