We caught 13 Bluefin for our 22 passengers. The fish are between 50 and 70 pounds. So the quality is very nice. They are not biting full speed yet but we did see some amazing schools today. Captain Andrew Viola called in today at 10:33 AM with update from the Pacifica out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We returned this morning from a 1.5 day trips. We had good action yesterday on the Bluefin Tuna. We had a total of 45 Bluefin Tuna. We had two Bluefin over 300 pounds (356 and 353). We also had three Bluefin Tuna over 200 pounds. Then we had about 12 nice fish weighing in between 80 and 180 pounds. Late in the day we found a good school of 30 to 40 pound fish. We had about about 25 of this nice fish. It was good action right before the sun went down. Good fishing and good weather.
Next few trips are overnights going for Yellowfin and Dorado. Our next Bluefin trip departs on Monday night.
UPDATE: I just talked to Andrew and the 356 pounder is a boat record.

Had a few bites but we’re only able to land one 70 lb bluefin. Today’s results have zero influence on tomorrow. Extremely light loads all week. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383

July 11
The morning started off so promisingly. We had plans to haul butt down to the lower grounds where there had been some good kelping but we got stopped short. The setup was epic. We had a 1-2 degree water temp break, and we were instantly catching fish. They were mostly small yellowfin. There was a sprinkling of 15-20+ pound tuna in there but most were throwbacks. But it felt like the school of straight bigs was right off the bow. We found a nice kelp and caught a dozen nice yellows and some more of that small tuna with a sprinkle, and again, we felt like it was soon coming. It never came. We stayed very busy but unfortunately it was mostly that throwback yellowfin. Eventually we gave up on what we thought was our honey hole and we never found much else the rest of the day. The lower zone produced enough for the couple boats that were down there so we're going to start down there tomorrow.
The weather was great most of the day. It got a bit breezy late but hopefully that comes down tomorrow.
