Polaris Supreme Update 08-02-2012

 

Hi Anglers. I'd just like to start by thanking our Polaris Supreme passengers on the last trip. You did a fantastic job and the crew enjoyed fishing with all of you. Even you Byler. Congrats to Mr. Myles for taking first place in the jackpot with his 39 pound bluefin tuna. Also want to give a shout out to a Mr. Jack and Mark for staying close behind taking second and third places with a yellowfin and another bluefin. I better see all of you next year.

 

After doing our normal arrive depart chores of offloading fish and passengers, scrubbing the boat, fueling the boat, loading groceries and the new passengers we were off again.

We departed on Tom Chaparros 14th annual charter. This year he turned it into a 6 day. We got our bait and now we are underway. We will do the norm here this afternoon. A lot of rigging up tackle, napping, reading and just hanging out enjoying the day. We have high hopes in the offshore tuna grounds tomorrow so check back and I'm sure we will have a good report.

Good weather today as we traveling down south looking for wahoo, tuna and tails. Not much to report on the catching but that should change shortly.

Saturday’s ULTRA limited load 2 day is for sure fishing.

Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute called in a trip wrap for todays trip, it was very good fishing this morning, with some highs and lows. We ended with 31 mixed tuna and 25 very nice grade yellowtail. Yo yo and fly lining worked very well for, and are still getting some hook ups in the dark while sitting on a kelp patty.     Arrive depart day today.  We did the whole routine, I hung out with my baby for an hour and it was time to set sail again.  We left on another 5 day with my buddy Archie and his gang and a few other regulars.  We did well at the bait receivers.  We loaded up on small sardine and left the bay and headed out to do some fishing in the afternoon.  We didn't do much.  A couple of yellowfin is all we caught.  We did see a couple of big schools of 50-80 pound tuna that didn't care we were there at all.  No bites.  We're eating prime rib and heading down in nice weather.  We're going to try for some yellows on the coast in the morning and then head offshore for the afternoon hunting yellowfin.

 Good evening from the bridge.  Today was yet another great day out on the water in the yellowfin tuna zone. We were blessed again with some awesome weather. The crew always loves it when we can go up into the mast from 6 am till the sun drops to look for fish and only have to wear some light long sleeves at the most, even driving straight into the wind.   The fishing was pretty good for most of the day today. We were getting on some descent schools this morning and scratching away. The grade was mixed again, some spots had the smaller 15-19 lbers and other brought in the same with some tuna up wards of 30 lbs so you can't complain about that.  The entire afternoon was bird schools galore, but a lot of them were just not the right kind. A lot of birds on kelp paddy's and spots of Skipjack. Instead of hitting every little school and throwing a bunch of bait, we just kept her rolling till we found the right sundowner school.  Rob was sure stoked we found that one since he was able to come in in the bottom of the 9th with his daily jackpot yellowfin of just about 30 lbs. Congrats to you Rob!! All and all we were please to add today into our books as a successful day out to sea.
 Right about the time we called it a day, Chef David rang the dinner bell and sat us down for the evenings cuisine. As he was dishing out the sesame seed crusted seared Ahi (yes, only 24 hours old, as fresh as it comes, so eat your heart out tuna lovers), forikake seasoned steamed rice and snow peas, Robin bust busy popping corks on the wine of the evening. 2013 Justin Sauvignon Blanc was the flavor and it smelled really good! I believe he told me it was a New Zealand white wine, but it really went great with the "catch of the day".  Dessert was a warm fresh peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream sending everyone to bed with nice full bellies once again.
 And  for Robins personal note of the day, he wants to let all of his friends know to make some room in the freezer for some amazing already packaged yellowfin tuna fillets. "I miss you all and want you to know this has been a truly amazing trip in all respects: a bit of heaven. 5 days and nights with the coolest people on the planet. The crew is off the chart and has been very accommodating".

San Diego had a great day offshore. 25 Mexican limits on Yellowtail and 2 Dorado. Weather and fishing is great. They have extended there offshore season through next week Monday. Call now to get in on this great fall fishing. 619-224-3383

Today we went out with only 11 passengers. At the end of the day everybody on board had a full Mexican limit of rockfish. Our rockfish today were a nice mix of reds, salmon grouper, whitefish, sheephead and lingcod. The weather was absolutely perfect today.
