Polaris Supreme Trip Update From Oct. 24th To Nov. 1 2012

Oh boy, where to begin? We're finally back on line here today. Our satellite connection way down where we fished doesn't work so until now we couldn't use the phone or send out our daily fish reports. But we're back on line. One week ago today we arrived at the Shamada Seamount just before or after lunch I can't remember, and it didn't take long before we saw a school of the bigguns right where we expected to see them so we didn't waste anytime and threw the anchor over right away, put out the kites and commenced fishing. No cows for us that day but we scratched at some big ones off and on till dark and that was that. No night bites while we were down here but it did start biting in the dark just before sunrise the next couple mornings and thats when we would catch our cows.

Throughout the next few days fishing was off and on depending on the time of day. When it was slow we would pull the anchor and troll for wahoo while dragging the kites behind us skipping rubber flying fish (yum yums) on top of the water. Pretty cool watching the bigguns hit these things. Usually they would miss the first few times but they keep trying until eventually they're hooked. When we weren't pulling on those we were jigging up steady wahoo strikes. When we would see the school of cows again we'd stop and fish them on anchor.

The biggest problem we had was keeping people fishing. When you have a charter with only 10 people it's hard to keep people at the rail so you don't know when the fish are biting because nobody's fishing. They're all chilling with a cocktail, beer and cigar in hands jamming to ipods hanging out. The weather was rough the first day down there and then the wind backed off and it got nice the rest of the trip fishing. We're now traveling home in o.k. weather. It's a little windy but it's a nice ride. We'll gladly take it.

Though we only had a few over 200, most everyone on board got there personal best and lots and lots of wahoo! And that's how I, Drew, remember it. Now I see what kind of editing and additions I get from Tommy. If anything is spelled wrong he wrote it.

Thats About it. Its pretty difficult to play catch up after 8 days. Tommy.

 The ball stopped rolling for us today.  We got it rolling briefly but then it hit a hill again.  We started where we left off last night.  We weren't alone.  We just weren't seeing the schools on the edge of the fleet so we mosied our way up to the next area and we were late to that party.  So again we mosied our way up and at 1:30 we were still skunked.  We got off on our own and then finally spotted a breezer up and got on it and it bit pretty well for a while.  We caught 50, mostly the good grade yellowfin before they quit biting.  After that we really didn't see much for the rest of the day.  It was our day today.  Hopefully we can turn it around tomorrow.

 If you think about it though, the fish we caught yesterday were free, so if you add it to what we caught today, we had a stellar day.  I like to think of it like that.

 We're going to try to catch some bait tonight.  We have enough for tomorrow, but if we have a good day like I expect, we may be out of position to catch bait the following night so we're going to try and get it done tonight.
    

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-27-2016 Thanks again for checking in. We arrived nice and early to the tuna grounds to get ourselves in the best position for the days work. Shortly after first light we decided where we wanted to get things going. It started off quite slow as the conditions weren't just right. We lacked current which is not favorable to catching fish so it became a little bit of a waiting game. That gave Chef Mike his time to get breakfast out of the way. Not too long after we got mobile and did some looking around and finally started checking out some different schools and began scratching away at a few bluefin. They were in the 18 lb class which is not bad at all. As the day progressed, we found the spot that looked the best and posted up, getting a solid chum line going, got the balloons out and settled in. The fish slowly started popping up with some bluefin in the 70 lb class hitting the deck as well as Marilyn landing her first ever balloon fish and first yellowfin at about 70 lbs. Congrats on that one!! The rest of the afternoon was a steady pick on that beautiful grade of tuna. You couldn't ask for a better way to end a 3 day trip. As soon as we landed our last 2 nice bluefin, one being Theresa's 75 lb "dream fish", it was time to pack it up and head home for San Diego. Us here on the Polaris Supreme would like to say thanks to Charter Head Bev Seltzer and her team of ladies and gentlemen for joining us this year and looking forward to seeing them next year on the 2nd annual Sadie Hawkins 3 day Charter. Captain Mike Pritchard checked in with an audio update from the Tribute out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay.  We have been drifting for 5 hours now.  We have 16 Bluefin Tuna in the 60 to 80 pound class.

Captain Mike Pritchard checked in this afternoon at 1:52 PM with an audio update from the Tribute out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We just finished up our two day trip and are headed back to the dock. We had very good fishing for. our rent rod charter. We had 20 anglers catch 184 Yellowtail and 8 Dorado.

We have one day trips departing tomorrow night through Thursday. We would love to take you fishing.

Tom Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme at fisherman's Landing October 13 after an eight-day trip with 22 anglers.

"We had another fantastic day fishing the 30 lb. class tuna," he wrote Friday, October 10. "Our weather is beautiful. We are going to finish up our trip with some yellowtail fishing before heading home. The guys are having a great time. We've had good fishing, good company and good food. And on that last note, for dinner we had a really good honey dijon mustard crusted wahoo. Just superb. Our next trip is full but if you have some time our 10-day with Larry Brown on Oct. 25 still has some open spots. He has over 15 sponsors for many freebies and raffles. Give Susan a call in the office, at 619-390-7890."

Rothery reported water temps along The Ridge as 79 to 84 degrees, and 72 degrees at Alijos Rocks. He stayed just a day at The Rocks, without seeing much sign of tuna that wanted to bite.

"The Ridge was excellent for dorado, yellowfin and yellowtail. We got off the high spots and off floating kelps," he said.

Two brothers, Scott and Neil Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga, showed off a typical dorado and a wahoo.

Kevin Veal of Huntington Harbor won first place for a 37-pound wahoo that ate his Tady 45 jig in a new green/gold combination. He said he fished with 40-pound P-Line, an Accurate B2 870 reel and a Seeker CBJ 100F.

Steven Belardes was second for a 36-pound wahoo, and chartermaster LeRoy Balardes won third place for a 31.6-pound yellowfin tuna.

Hi friends. We landed 40 Bluefin most in the 35-55 lb. class Through the morning till lunch time in one long drift. late in the day we sat on another school and managed to land a few before dinner was served. As of now, we're sitting on the "sack" and we're metering fish all the time. We'll see what happens in the morning when we wake up. Hopefully, we can pick away at 'em on the bag and never have to move. We'll see what happens. Weather was ok and looks even better for the next few days.

We're happy with our day as some of the boats down here didn't even break double digits. So, we'll take it and run with it. Chappy and the boys are doing just fine and we'll be making a decision tomorrow whether or not to stay put for Bluefin or make the run down to the Yellowtail grounds. Stay tuned. Take care.

We had some short range trips online and were able to catch a good amount of school sized fish and 3 jumbo tuna! Including the First 2 cow tuna to come aboard the Polaris Supreme in 4 years!
