st lawrence Fishing Report 2024

OK back to boat work! At this stage we are priming the deck and filling in the holes. Or I should say the Painters are.

Capt Ryan checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing, today they went out on a 3/4 day trip with 48 anglers. We ended the day with 39 Yellowtail, the water temperature cooled a little with this front we had. The temperature when we arrived was about 61.5 degrees, as the day went on the temperature warmed up nicely and was 65 degrees as we headed home. We saw some really nice schools of fish today and it should only improve as the weekend gets here, they seem a little lethargic right now. But as they adjust the fishing should only get better. Make sure to bring a yoyo rig, flyline rig and a surface iron rig, come on down and get in on this action. We are fishing everyday with a departure time of 5:30 am.

We got a little bit of something throughout the whole day. Everywhere we went we got yellowtail, but no real bug hits. Our morning bite had great quality but not as many as yesterday. Our weather is still good because of the island. Tomorrow we will be in open water on patties looking for dorado, tuna and yellowtail. Great fresh yellowtail and shrimp scampi for dinner. Today was a bust for us in the yellowtail grounds. We arrived pre daylight and Tommy stopped on some yellows so we fished it in the dark and fished it in the light for nothing. We looked around after that and all the key ingredients were there. Bait life, bird life, and schools of yellowtails were all around but it wouldn't go. Just a handful of bites. After giving it a few hours to get with it for not a whole lot we decided not to hang out and burn a day doing it. We're on the move to the wahoo grounds. We're ready for them too. We did the wahoo seminar and everyone spent the afternoon rigging up wire leaders for the toothy fish. We'll be where we'll be at or soon after daylight and we're hoping for some wahoo action. If not wahoo let's hope we can get some action on the tuna,pargo and yellowtails. Let's also hope for low wind velocity. It was getting pretty windy this afternoon and it's currently traveling faster down then we are.

Good evening everyone. We raced down throughout the night and into the morning time to arrive to our desired location in the late morning. It took us a while to get things figured out and at around 1030 hours, we saw them, stopped the boat, and like a light-switch (get it San Diego?), things lit up and the corner came alive. Bluefin tuna rushed the stern getting so close that Jed was mere inches from free-gaffing one. They were as hungry as we've ever seen Bluefin and for the short time frame that the fish popped up, we took full advantage of it as our group did work on the Bluefin, a few handfuls of Yellowfin, and a Dorado. For a while there, the whole boat was bent over on tuna. Every bait on the corner resulted in a tuna, easy fishing. We picked away at them one, two at a time after our rush until things dried up, and that was pretty much our day as we drove around trying to locate something fresh. The fish seemed to get lock-jaw towards the end of the day for us but we were still beaming about our mid-morning stop. Other boats in the area had the same type of deals, some more than others, but all in all, it was a good day down here at the trusty Bluefin/Yellowfin grounds. No shortage of fish around here, that is for certain.

So we're headed up the line in nice weather. A little bit of swell but the wind that slapped us in the faces this morning has vanished. Hardly a white-cap out here, beautiful weather and the forecast shows more of the same coming up for out 2 day trip leaving tomorrow afternoon. There are a couple spots still open so call Susan at (619) 390-7890 to book a spot. We'll be departing at 1:00 pm, traveling all day and night to the tuna grounds to arrive in the very early morning hours, fish all day until dark, and then arrive the next morning. The general opinion on this fish is that they will float this evening so we'll have a full day down here to get them located. We're excited about the prospects so give Susan a call ASAP. We'll arrive to the docks tomorrow morning around 0800 hours. Take care.

Captain Ryan called in late last night to report fantastic fishing conditions on the Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. The fishing were biting live bait. Ryan recommends 25 pound mono with a flurocarbon leader. The fishing are in the 20 to 25 pound class. They were biting really good. Come on down and fish on the San Diego. Tommy Rothery brought his Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 17 after the best five-day trip to Guadalupe Island so far this year. Rothery's anglers had an excellent catch of larger yellowfin from the big island, and a couple of wahoo. The luckiest angler on the Eric Rogger trip may heave been Dean Hendrickson of Chatsworth, who got a non-eligible (assist from a deckhand) 110-pound tuna on a sardine and 40-pound line, and a 47-pound wahoo, on a black and purple small Marauder. Phil Bruce of Ramona won first place, for a 105-pound yellowfin. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 40-pound P-Line and 40-pound fluorocarbon leader, a Cal Sheets-treated Penn 12 T reel and a Seeker 660 rod. Supreme regular Dietmar Kruger of Santa Monica was second, for an 87-pounder he got on 40-pound line, and Alex Rogger of Steamboat Springs, CO won third place, for a 79.2-pound yellowfin tuna. Stephan Kruger of Venice Beach took the trip's best yellowtail, a 39-pound mossback, on the kite with a squid for bait. "He hit it like a massive tuna," said Kruger, "there was a huge explosion in the water under the kite."
