pine island Fishing Report 2025

Capt Ryan Bostain of the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing with a Coronado Islands update, 25 anglers and caught 111 Yellowtail from 10 to 30 pounds. The best fishing we have had this year, so get your bring a 25 pound live bait rod and some 4/0 hooks and some sliding egg sinkers for the mackeral. We got some on flylined anchovies and some fish bit the surface iron. Bring all your Yellowtail gear and come on down, we run the trips every day. Ryan Bostian called in with this report on the San Diego, "I'm off the boat today, I just got a call from Captain Brian as of noon he had 13 Yellowtail on board. It's the same old story we are landing about 1/2 of the fish that are hooked due to the size and location of these fish. A lot of them are 25 lbs. and bigger, and most of them are located in shallow water.

"Make sure you bring your "A" Game if you come down to fly line some sardines with us. You'll need 2/O hooks, 25 or 30 lb test. a nice firm drag and be prepared to hook into some beautiful Yellowtail.

Aug 17

We started off early yesterday morning in the hunt for yellowtail unsuccessfully. Great fishing on it the day before but the water dropped 2+ degrees and they were very inactive. We were getting the "should've been here yesterday" vibe so we took off to fish for yellowfin. After a couple hour move and a few hours in the zone, we were getting the "should've been here yesterday" vibe again but shortly after chowing down a big fat cheeseburger the call came down from Gunny. "kelp". It's those black eyes I tell you. Gets um every time. After that we pretty much drifted till dark scratching at 20-40 pound yellowfin with the occasional flurry for 20 or so. In fact right at dark there was about 6 people fishing, all with one on and the 18 other anglers standing around with a cigar and a cocktail in hand.

The weather was choppy and rolly today but it didn't bother us. As long as your catching fish who cares what the weather does. We were all very sore and tired after today and I think we're all ready for a nice pork chop meal and a pillow and blanket. We'll be fishing for yellowtail all day tomorrow then setting us up for our last day of bluefin fishing.

Sep. 15

First off I'd like to give a shot out to my Phillidelphians. What up Philly. Your just going to let the Chargers roll in there and get it done. Uhhhh. That's right. You and your candy cane looking uniforms, Xmas all year long here in the mlb of Philly. And here's another thing, your cheese steak sandwiches stink. That's right, I said it. No hard feelings Philly. That's the way I feel about every team the Chargers go up against.

Now onto fishing. Today was awesome. I mean it was just a blast. We started it off early with a jig strike/sonar school and it was game on. Early on it was nothing but small fish. Small yellowtail, small yellowfin, small dorado. So we shook, shook, shook. Release, release, release. Then we caught a nice one. Then another. And another until pretty much everything we hooked was a 30-40 pound yellowfin tuna. Nice! Take that Philadelphia! Well we caught a bunch of them during that 1/2 day stop and it was fun. It was like fishing in a giant aquarium. Everywhere you looked it was tuna. You could choose which fish you wanted to hook if you were fast enough. You had to be quick though. After that we fished some kelps, some that were holding pretty good amounts of dorado, and we trolled around for some more tuna but we were spent after the first 1/2 of the day. I'm telling you, that was fun fishing.

Anyway, the weather today was mostly good. It got a little breezy there late but no complaints. We're sliding down and we're going to look at the yellowtail grounds tomorrow and decide on where to go from there.
