Good evening, friends. Typical arrive/depart day for us on the Supreme today. We unloaded a beautiful catch of RSW-fresh yellowfin, bluefin, yellowtail, and dorado up to the top of the docks, unloaded the Joe Beck/Bob Vance group, headed to the fuel dock for fuel as well as an oil and fuel filter change, loaded up lots of groceries, and brought on the Garry Roberts group as well. After clearing the point with a decent load of bait, we enjoyed lunch, rigged tackle, and took some naps. A normal travel day for us with the exception of taking an hour at the end of the day to try and catch a few bluefin tuna. We didn't connect on any shortfins, so we continued our journey south and feasted on our standard prime rib departure meal. That's our day in a nutshell. Our weather is flat calm, sunny, and we're digging every second of it. We've gone from farmers tans, to tank top tans, and now it's time for a full-on shirtless bronze for this 9-day adventure.

Anyhow, to start our trip off, we'll be giving the offshore yellowfin/bluefin scene a try on Friday with the hopes of connecting with some of that better grade of fish. We're just going to take things day by day and we're closely monitoring Hurricane Ileana and her whereabouts. We'll chat with you tomorrow and fill you in on our day and our plan for the next. Hey gang:

This past week we got a taste of just about everything the offshore grounds have to offer. Wednesday and Thursday were spent drifting over the top of some of the biggest schools of bluefin tuna I have ever seen in the local waters. While we had a lot of fish around and under the boat we did not catch all that many of them. I have been saying for years that I believe a bluefin tuna is one of the hardest fish to hook in the ocean and they proved it as we caught 11 on Wednesday and 7 on Thursday. Monday and Tuesday were relatively slow days for us as we returned to the dock with 20-30 mixed fish (yellowtail,dorado). On Friday and Saturday we took out 2 separate rent rod charter groups and experienced some very fun fishing for yellows and dorado. The highlight of the week was our Saturday trip as we caught 68 mixed fish (46 yellowtail 22 dorado). If you are planning to come out with us this week , all you need to bring is a few bait rods. 25 lb. has been the most popular size as it is a nice medium between light and heavy. In the event that we run into a school of bluefin a 15 or a 20 lb. rod is a nice outfit to have. A 30 lb. rod can be used on kelps where the dorado and yellowtail are biting good.

Hello Everyone, Today we had a great day chasing the bigger Bluefin Tuna. We were able to land some great quality fish. Most came on the kite, but the one we landed on a fly line outfit bit 80lb with a great designer hook. Our landing ratio is great, we only need a few more of these quality Bluefin Tuna to make it so everyone has landed a fish over 120lbs. Hopefully we can get it done tomorrow.   We had a good day.  We had a great day actually.  From about 8-12 it was pretty darn good fishing.  We scratched before that and we scratched after that.  And from 5:30 until close to dark we had very good fishing.  The best of the day.  Heck, I'll call it the best of the year for us.  Quality and quantity.  Through out the day the fish was all mixed up.  !4-22 pounds.  This evening I don't think I saw more than 2 fish below 16 pounds.  Most were bigger then that.  Like I said, we had a good day.  And we did it in the wind too.  All day long it was windy, windy, windy.  But we didn't care.  We were catching fish.

  We're going to stay the night and try and get another good hit in the morning and take it from there.  We may mess around up the lee of the Island or take off offshore and look for tuna.  We'll play it by ear.  First things first, we want a good hit.

Good evening Polaris Supreme family. Today was our first full day of fishing at the tuna grounds. We got here about 0800 and went straight into wahoo mode. The skinny's didn't wait too long to show themselves. Getting a troll fish here and there, they sure seemed to like the live bait when we stopped on the jig strikes. Things change from day to day, wherther it be bait, bombs raiders...this morning, live sardines looked to be the bait of choice. After tagging a few dozen of the toothy critters, we got anchored up and went into big tuna mode. Kites out, lines in the water, time to try and chum up the big boys. It wasn't too long before Chuck hooked into something real nice. On his first long trip, he wound up putting a 145 on the deck for a new personal best. The afternoon showed to be pretty slow which can be pretty typical. The guys fished hard though. Eventually the sharks got on us, but not too bad. Could be a lot worse. We hooked a couple more throughout the afternoon and lost them, but that's why they call it fishing, not catching. After snack time, Bill hooked into a cow that took him into sundown that he ended up losing right at color. That's just part of the game though, and we have many more days of fishing time. Shake it off and tomorrow is a new day. The guys all hit the rack right after Chef Mike's amazing veal chop dinner to recharge the batteries because 0400 is going to be coming pretty early. Captain Ryan Bostian called in late last night with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay, CA. We caught 97 Yellowtail and 120 Calico Bass today. The majority of the fish were caught on fly-lined baits. We did catch some Yellows on the YoYo too!
Bring a 25 pound live bait stick with mono. We do not recommend spectra and a shot top shot for what we are doing right now. Also 1 and 2 o hooks. For yoyo bring your 40 pound outfit.
