okla Fishing Report 2024

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Hello friends. Well, the countdown is on. Come Saturday, the Polaris Supreme will be departing on her first trip of the 2012 season and the excitement level around here is very high. With all of our major maintenance projects being completed, we've shifted our focus to cleaning up the mess that the past month and a half as created along with finishing up some of the little "knick-knack" projects. Today, Jamie got serious in the galley wiping down the ceiling, the walls and countless other cleaning and organizing projects while Chef Schooler took inventory and is preparing for a fun day of shopping for the galley. As far as the rest of us, Mark, Tommie, Drew and myself have been doing various wood-work refinishing, organizing the engine room and deck, firing all the machinery up and working on the A/C unit. I'm pretty excited to see how the A/C will run this year as we've done some fine tuning to the unit to make it run more efficient with less noise. We'll see how everything goes when we install the new evaporator on Thursday. Jamie did a super clean in the galley, Schooler took inventory, and the bossman organized the wheelhouse and made various upgrades to some of our weather and fishing programs. We had all hands on deck today and we'll be popping in and out throughout the week to ensure that all systems are a go come Saturday.

So that's all. We're getting pretty fired up as the day is soon arriving that we shove off and hopefully find ourselves knee deep in some of those beautiful Bluefin tuna that are running around offshore and some homeguard Yellowtail at the islands. But for now, we'll just keep getting things cleaned up and organized. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

Good afternoon everyone reading. It was a turn around day today. Everything went smooth. We departed on our annual "Lets Talk Hook Up" 4 day trip this afternoon with a full load of passengers. The bait thing went smooth today as well. Good looking bait for us today. We're thinking we'll have no bait issues this trip unless we run out catching tons of bluefin but we welcome that. That's the best problem to have out here. It sounds like a slow day today in the bluefin grounds. I'd rather it be slow while we're at the dock then when we're out fishing though. We'll see what happens tomorrow and take it from there. The weather now is lovely but the weather forecast appears to be less then good. Let's hope they're wrong about that one. It's just about time for our tackle seminar followed up with the prime rib so I have to go.

Fishing and the weather is still excellent! However we have had our fill of those albacore so we are heading south for some dorado and yellowtail. Dinner tonight was incredible. Pork with some amazing yummy sauce. Susan said we still have a couple of opening on our next two trips. Take some time off and come out and get into some of this action

Today we scratched away at a nice grade of yellowtail. Our weather is calm and we had a fun day of island fishing. Thanks for checking in.

Hello Everyone, Today we had another outstanding day of fishing. Lots of Bluefin in the 20-40lb range as well as some great grade Yellowtail. We spent the afternoon trying to make some bait for tomorrow. We caught Spanish mackerel pretty steady for a while before the wind forced us to head to the anchorage for the night. Tomorrow we will start by targeting Yellowtail and chasing big ones in the evening. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning at 10:41 with an update from the Tribute. So far we have 130 Yellowfin Tuna and a couple Bluefin Tuna. We are running another trip departing on Monday.     Today was awesome.  We woke up drifting catching fish and that's about what we did until dark.  I'm not kidding you.  We moved the boat just a handful of times but never for more then 10 minutes.  It was drifting with always at least one on the hook.  In the morning until after lunch it was mostly bluefin in the 30-45 pound range with the occasional 60-80 pounder.  I have to tell you that that's a much more manageable grade.  It's a much better fish to start off on than those 60-80 pounders.  Don't get me wrong, you know I love catching those beauts but they make a much better cherry than ice cream if you know what I mean.  We had that kind of day where if we catch them tomorrow it will be the cherry on top.  The rest of the day we got into yellowfin tuna mode and it was game on for those fish.  Tommy decided to save our sardine on board it being they were feeding on the anchovy that went over the side so that's what we used.  Chovy baby.  I can't ever remember fishing anchovy for tuna on this boat.  I have to go back to my mission bay days to remember that but I didn't forget how to do it.  I wrote this in the beginning of the season and I'll write about it again.  If you're coming on a future trip, please remember to bring the lost art of anchovy fishing skills.  A big part of that is an anchovy rod and reel.  Something light that's meant for 20-25 pound test with a nice free spool to help you toss those anchovies away from the boat.  I hate to say it but if that means you need to bring your coffee grinder so be it.  
    The weather is still good!  Man I hope this can hold up for at least my buds on the upcoming Heil 5 day trip leaving the day after tomorrow.  We're staying put right here for our last day fishing tomorrow.  We're hoping we can get more of the 60-80 pounders tomorrow but we will be stoked with the 30-45's as well.
                                    

 

June 28

I told you all we would be departing today on a 5 day trip on my last report and I have to tell yah, that's exactly what we did. We're out on a private charter with Mr. Pfleger and some of his boys. Things went alright at the bait receivers. We got two boxes of a mostly spanish mackerel with some greenies and about a 7.375 average of sardines mixed in. Things are looking a little scary with our sardine stocks of San Diego this year thus far. You may want to make sure you pack your bait catching rigs if you're coming out this year and also think about getting your anchovy fishing skills back. You may need them.

We're thinking about starting offshore tomorrow on a southerly track. We're not going to put the brakes on and fish locally where most the tunas been caught lately. We're going to put ourselves in position to do other things the next couple days after tomorrow. We may look for white sea bass and yellows somewhere down the line. It's not something we'd do on a normal long range trip but this is a special one. I'll explain later. You know how Pfleger is with his sea bass.
