Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-21-2016 For anyone that wants to go out and fish the local tuna outside San Diego that has been biting consistently we have a day and a half trip leaving on Sunday at 6 PM fishing Monday and coming back Tuesday morning at 6 AM. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a good broken record, we had another great day of Wahoo fishing! It didn't stop there from dark on we had a great nighttime bite on Quality yellowtail, absolutely a beautiful grade. Talk about burning the candle at both ends of the stick! You guys leaving on the Ahi charter on the 22nd make sure you have plenty of the medium-size marauders in your tackle box. Not every day but some days the sharks are really really bad eating marauders and the Wahoo on the marauders. Anybody wanting to get in on some of the best action I've ever seen on these eight and 10 day trips we have openings on our limited load 10 day trip on November 22. Drew Henderson brought Tommy Rothery's Polaris Supreme home after a five-day trip with 24 anglers to Guadalupe Island. He said he got some fish at Westy's Hole, but the sharks were bad there. Marco Ramirez of Torrance won first place for a 74.8-pound tuna. He nabbed the yellowfin on a sardine and a 2/0 Gamakatsu hook. He said he used 40-pound Seaguar fluoprocarbon and 80-pound Power Pro Spectra on a Sealine 50 reel and a five and a half-foot Lamiglas rod. He remarked that he almost got too tired to reel during the one-hour fight. Michael Rayner of LA was second, for a 71.2-pounder, and Rodger Kang of Fresno tied him with a tuna of exactly the same size.

Hello Everyone, We just departed on our annual AHI charter. Defiantly a great group of anglers who know how to have a little fun with each as well as put some fish on the boat. At the moment we have the outdoor speaker system hooked up and secure, a beautiful load of bait aboard, and the Supreme pointed south eagerly steaming to our destination. Nice yellow Pablo! Made a little bit of squid and things were looking pretty fishy. Got one fish and saw some more. Game fish scene is straightening out.

Tribute definite run tonight! Departing at 10pm fishing offshore for Bluefin Tuna and Yellowtail. Mexican fishing permit, bait and bunk included.Passport not required.

Hi friends. We departed this evening at 1800 hours on another day and a half trip with a group of eager anglers and the voice of Let's Talk Hook-Up, Mr. Pete Gray. We loaded up on a beautiful load of sardines at the receivers and although we didn't get a full load of bait, we have plenty and the load is very healthy looking. Let's hope that we have something to throw them at tomorrow. We'll be on the hunt for yellowfin and dorado on kelps but we'll also take an open-water sonar school if one happens to present itself. With a favorable weather outlook and a good load of bait, we're anxious to get down to the zone. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

"Fishing today was absolutely excellent!" wrote Polaris Supreme skipper Tom Rothery August 23. "The albacore bit all day and the weather has laid down and is good. All the albies were in the 25 to 30-pound range. For lunch we had swordfish in a butter, lemon, and caper cream sauce. For dinner we had a rack of lamb with a blue cheese port wine sauce. Yummy! A couple of boats headed to Guadalupe to no avail. We still have a spot here and there on some of our upcoming trips. Give Susan a call in the office if you can get away and come fish."
Rothery docked his boat at Fisherman's Landing August 24. He spent his fishing time on the four-day trip on the albacore grounds, with a half-day at Cortes Bank, where second skipper Drew Henderson reported big numbes of large bonito biting. The bones were eight to 12 pounds, he said. John Windling of Portland, OR won first place for a 41.4-pound albacore. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 3/0 Mutu hook tied to 40-pound fluorocarbon leader and 60-pound Line One Spectra. He used an Avet JX reel and a Calstar 765 XL rod. David Schulz of Yorba Linda was second, for a 38.6-pounder, and John Thompson of Phoenix, AZ won third place for a 37-pound albacore.
