Hi friends. We departed this evening at 1800 hours on another day and a half trip with a group of eager anglers and the voice of Let's Talk Hook-Up, Mr. Pete Gray. We loaded up on a beautiful load of sardines at the receivers and although we didn't get a full load of bait, we have plenty and the load is very healthy looking. Let's hope that we have something to throw them at tomorrow. We'll be on the hunt for yellowfin and dorado on kelps but we'll also take an open-water sonar school if one happens to present itself. With a favorable weather outlook and a good load of bait, we're anxious to get down to the zone. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

We were on bluefin and yellowfin all day but they were difficult to hook. 8 bluefin tuna from 25-80 lbs and 2 yellowfin. Most of our fish were hooked on flylined sardines on 30 or 40 lb.

Just got here to the island. We have mostly been fishing the lower end of the island but we will be looking down the island in case the fish moved up! Wish us luck!

 About mid morning today I was pretty bummed. I felt we should've been here yesterday. I was thinking we were going to have to run in tonight to catch our tuna for the trip. I was wrong. Before lunch we had our best stop of the year on yellowfin. Not just number wise but size wise too. 20-30 pounders with a few 18's and a few 35's. That's right, feeling pretty good now. It didn't take very many of them to fill up a fish hold. We pretty much have 2 full fish holds and fortunately/unfortunately, we have to prepare another fish hold for tomorrow. I only say unfortunately because we'll be forced to use the beautiful sardine we've been saving. Out here we've been catching our own bait so we wouldn't have to use our stock but we have no room to put the bait we catch now.

 The bluefin weren't in the biting mode today. We still saw the schools as we have everyday since we've been fishing in this zone, but some days are bite days and some aren't. Obviously we're hoping tomorrow is a bite day. Some bluefin would be the cherry on top of this wonderful sundae.

 The weather sure was nice today and to top it all off, it looks like we'll have the same tomorrow. Sweet dreams. Life is good.
 

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016 #2 I meant to send this picture of the fathom meter this morning but I forgot about it. This is a screenshot of our fathom meter last night when we hooked the 115 pounder that Jack caught. You can see these Bluefin like to hang between 26 to 40 fathoms. That's pretty darn deep. If you look up towards the upper part of the screen, you will see two flat straight lines. One of them is in the middle of the screen at about 4 fathoms and the other is on the left side at about 11 fathoms. That is somebody under the boat using a live bait sinker rig. Also in the center of the screen you'll see a forward slash. It is light in color and broken up starting at about 4 fathoms going down to 12 fathoms. That is somebody winding a jig up. If you look between 7 to 13 fathoms you'll see a jig someone is dropping down. The point I want to make is that these fish are typically deep and you need to be able to get your bait or jig down into the deeper water columns where these fish are at. Knowing this you should be using those big heavy jigs or heavy torpedo sinker to increase your chances of hooking one of these trophy fish. The tuna did not show up. A couple of us saw schools that did not cooperate at all. We picked up a few yellowtail on kelp patties and a handful yellowfin tuna for the day. We are heading home to regroup. We would like to thank Archie Steele and the gang for joining us we had a great time with the crew and some fantastic fishing the first part of the trip. Hey everyone, Today was our fourth and final full day of fishing down south. We started off the morning looking for wahoo. It did not take long before we found a nest of hungry 'hoos. We made a few passes over them and picked off a handful each time. We even had a few marlin mixed in with the wahoo that put on quite a show. By the late morning the wahoo bite slowed down and we began to look around for other signs of life. It did not take long before we found a large school of yellowfin and they stayed with us until the sun went down, with 2-5 fish hanging the whole time they kept us plenty busy all afternoon. With sore arms and smiles on everyone's faces we sat down for dinner and enjoyed a delicious plate of fresh fish, thanks to the charter master who generously donated one of his fish. With a couple hours of fishing time left for the trip we are going to spend it looking for yellowtail as we begin to make our way north back to San Diego. Until next time, Team Supreme

Aug. 22
    We finished up our trip today hunting bluefin.  They weren't very friendly today.  In fact they were down right mean.  We saw a tremendous amount of fish today but very few would bite our lines.  All day long we were stopping on schools and we have 22 fish to show for it.  All of them were nice ones with the biggest going about 60 pounds.  !st and 2nd will be easy, figuring out 3rd place in the jackpot may take a while.  Alot of 45 pounders to weigh I think.

    We're headed in.  Tommy's taking the next one out, and I'll be on board.
