Polaris Supreme Trip Update

After yesterday's tough day the pressure was on to find a school. Upon entering the warm water pocket it wasn't but a few minutes until Tommy came across a school and the lines went out. The bite started out slow then became consistent on those larger yellowfin. After a while the bluefin filled in and the bite matured into a plunker lasting through lunch. Several dorado added color to the mix and then it was trolling lines out as we went searching for another school. Single strikes on tuna and dorado was all we could produce for the rest of the day. These tuna are coming up gorged on small squid, so they must be feeding down deep and occasionally popping up to the surface. Tomorrow it looks like the weather will be on our side, and perhaps the fish gods will smile on us as well.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We found a kelp paddy right at grey light this morning. So far we have about 35 Yellowtail and 2 Dorado so far. We'll keep you posted as the day progresses."

We had full speed fishing today offshore on kelp patties. However for the most part, the yellowtail and dorado we were catching were small. So we released all but a few. We did however get some nice grade yellowfin. No big hits, but good action as we picked away at 30 lb. yellowfin. Jeff prepared a great Cajun chicken with avocado, mozzarella and fresh salsa for lunch. And as we head in tonight he is serving us steak and lobster. We will hit the dock tomorrow morning at 8:00am. We will be departing tomorrow on an 8-day trip with "The Old Wild Bunch" headed up by Le Roy Belardes.  We figured it out.  The Cortes Bank isn't good right now for bait, or game fish.  Somebody had to be the guinea pigs.  Why not the boat full of fish already.  Check that off the list of places not to go for a while.  One thing I can say about that place is the weather there was fantastic.  Such a smooth ride around the area.  Not a common thing for that place.  If you aren't going to catch much you might as well do it in good weather.  But if you've been keeping up, we've had a great trip.  We're rolling in fat and happy.

 It sounds like they're having a tough time keeping good bait in the receivers as of late so we're going to get next to the harbor early morning and try and catch a tank of mackerel for our next trip leaving tomorrow.  4 days.  See you then.
     

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with a Coronado Islands Yellowtail update from The San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing. The fishing has been phenomenal. Today we had 45 passengers catch 195 Yellowtail. They are biting Surface Iron, Yo-yo Jigs, and Fly-lined sardines. We are fishing everyday. You will need your passport to go fishing at the Coronado Islands. We have had some great scores the past few days and conditions are HOT!

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-19-2016 #2 Nice day on the Wahoo and fabulous weather. The sharks were gnarly Though. The Polaris Supreme Crew.

We had some incredible action today! 

The Bluefin Tuna we up high and dry in the morning Foaming around, boiling up, incredible life. 

We managed to get a hit in the morning for some 40-60 LB Tuna.

Later in the day the schools transitioned from boiling Tuna to Breezing and shining Tuna. Harder to see but by the end of the day our resilient anglers were able  to see the breezers with their own eyes and make the perfect cast. 

Lots of potential out here. 

We are looking forward to our next trip leaving Thursday.
