Very good sign of yellowtail today. Unfortunately they were extremely difficult to hook. 21 yellowtail, 45 rockfish, 1 halibut. Fish were hooked on all the popular techniques.
Aug. 10
Well, I can't say we caught very much today. I can say we saw plenty of schools, we just couldn't get more then one of them to bite and on that school we caught one 70 pounder. I'm thinking we saw about a dozen schools of tuna today but like I said, it was the wrong day for biting fish in these grounds. The weather though today, man o man is it nice out here so at least we got to look at non biting fish in good weather.
In other fishing news we got the word from the higher ups that Mexico has lifted the ban on recreational bluefin tuna catching and keeping so with that news we're going to roll on down into some traditional Mexican bluefin tuna grounds and give that a go tomorrow. We'll be looking for yellowfin tuna as well tomorrow. We've heard they"re in the area too. Wish us luck.

Good evening everyone and happy Halloween. Things didn't fair too well for us this morning at last weekends hot tuna spot. You can tell it was a week closer to November because there were only 4 of us there compared to 15 of us there last week. Anyways, like I said, things didn't fair too well for us there. That doesn't mean the tuna weren't there though. At least one of the boats there did well today. We didn't have the patience for it today though. At least not for the veal grade, so we took off at lunch time. We took off in search of dorado. And wouldn't you know it, things worked out. We found three productive kelps this afternoon. The last kelp almost being a fixer upper. So it worked out. We had a good day. 130+ fish day. That'll do.
So we'll be in for the week, and we're going to come back out here again next Friday. We're going to bring along with us the Inside Sportfishing crew. They want to do an episode so if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we'd love to have you. And then after that we leave on a 10 day. So if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we loved to have you then as well.

Well, we just finished up our last day of our last trip of 2014. We fished the coast for yellowtail and junk this morning. And remember by junk I mean the small good eaters. It was a successful morning. The sun wasn't even up yet and we were getting yellows and others. It was good fishing. The grade was small, 10-12 pounders but we didn't have more then 8 yellowtail on board prior to today so we were tagging them. For a little while anyways. We let everyone get a few along with there junk before looking for something else. We made a few drifts after that for another couple handfulls of yellows and some whitefish and stuff and then it was mid morning and we had to call it and head for home. So that's what we're doing now.
Another successfully trip I'd call it. We had some action the first couple days fishing, then we got to see the 2-300 pounders boiling around(unfortunately none would bite but they were there), and then we had some great action on wahoo and tuna, and then we finished her off up above getting action on the yellers. We'll be unloading at 6:30 tomorrow morning, and like I said, we'll be tied up for a while. So it's that time.
It's time to write this. I write this at the end of every season. I should just copy and paste it every year because it's the same, as it should be. I'd just like to thank everyone who fished with us this year and in previous years on behalf of myself, the crew, and all the way to Tommy and Susan from the bottom of our hearts. You're what keep us going year after year. You're the reason we can take care of ourselves and our families. You're why we can enjoy life off of the boat and on the boat. You make our world go round. Hello friends. Another day here on the Yellowtail grounds and we had yet again, another fine morning fishing. It wasn't the hottest of bites, but it was a nice pick at some 12-20 lb. Yellowtail for our morning efforts. When the bite had shut down, we made a move and dodged the wind that was chasing us down like a we had taken Mother Nature's purse and made it into some calmer water to try our luck with some exotics. We hooked a few and landed a couple and when all was said and done, a couple of Broomtail Groupers and a nice Halibut laid victim to our offerings and are currently en route back to San Diego for a date with the dinner table. We enjoyed ourselves a fine meal in the calm waters of one of our favorite hangouts and once the last ice cream sundae was served, we had to make turns back for San Diego.
With that said, the boats that have been motoring up the line have been making terrible speed up the line, so we're just going to take a nice, easy course up the line and see what happens with our speed. If we make good speed, we'll do a little fishing. If not, we'll bundle everything up and get this ship back in to shape while the passengers watch movies, read books, nap and eat. We're shooting for an ETA back to the dock at around 0800 hours. Thanks for checking in.
