We have a Berkley sponsored open charter this Friday. This will be the first trip after Ling cod opens. There will be give away packs for everyone. Hi everyone. A fun day was had by all here on the Polaris Supreme. For a while, it was looking rather bleak, but we got on a breezer a little after lunch time and "put the wood on" some Bluefin. That last quotation was a Mark Clark-ism, I don't know what putting the wood on means but he apparently says it when he would like our anglers to hook up and pull on some fish. Well, from lunch time until sun down, they were looking like they all worked at the lumber section of Home Depot. We also had a nice sonar school towards the end of the day that gave us a ripper up until dark. Lots of good times for the boys today here on the Polaris Supreme. All the kids had a blast and we're throwing out the "sack" tonight to hopefully do this again tomorrow. Hopefully, the time of day thing gets straightened out and we have some action in the morning time. We'll chat with you tmorrow.

P.S. The Phrase Is "putting the wood to them" not on them. Thus the Clark-ism variation. The Term comes from a time when your father would make you go to the wood pile to pick your own piece of lumber to spank you for lipping off or what ever you did wrong. So we spanked the tuna, put a hurt on them, or put the wood to them! Tommy.

 

 

Trip summary so far...

Still having issues with the data link on the sat phone and computer so it's been tough to try to get the reports out. However the fishing is the complete opposite. So far the trip is going perfectly as planned for the fishing. Our first morning we had excellent fishing on good quality yellowtail. From there we went outside and had great fishing on the Dorado and got our limits. The next day we had epic tuna fishing from 22-80 lbs. Our weather has been excellent the whole time. And our food has been no less than great, from the best cheeseburger in the world to the most tender flavorful fillet mignon. We will be hunting the wahoo tomorrow and hope our luck will continue.

The office has one cancellation on the 8-day trip leaving October 5th. And if you want a 10-day, Larry Brown still has open spots on his Oct 25th trip. Come out and join me and Tommy if you can.

Nov. 6

Well today wasn't at all what we expected. Last week it had been great yellowtail fishing in the zone we were in but for whatever reason most that fish wasn't around today. Famous words of Steve Loomis, "only one things for sure and that's that things will change". So true in life but especially true in fishing. Things will always change whether it be for better or for worse. Unfortunately today it was for worse. That's why you can't base your booking a trip on last year or even 2 weeks ago. Oh well. We caught a few nice yellows today and lots of other species we saved for meals later on in the trip because they'll be tasty. We're now heading south. We're going to start fishing first thing tomorrow fishing for D, all of the above.

Passenger Mike Payne brought a whole bunch of crab with him. I'm not sure exactly what kind of crab they were. They weren't king crab but the next best thing. Basically it was all you can eat because when I had all I could take down there was a lot of it still available. Delicious. Talk to you tomorrow.

Good evening. We spent our morning getting the Supreme and her passengers out of the weather for a bit, attempting to locate some coastal species for a morning while we gave the offshore scene a rest. We didn't quite connect like we were hoping but we did manage to catch a few yellowtail for our efforts, so all was not for lost. We made the decision to get back offshore and see what was going on and what was going on was scattered jig strikes on yellowfin tuna with some bait stops to go along with it. There is still some good hits to be had out here on both bluefin and yellowfin but we just didn't locate the right batch of fish. For tomorrow, we'll be fishing a little bit closer to home as we'll give it a try for a few hours and then have to book it for home. Wish us luck and sorry for the short report, the weather traveling up isn't the best conditions for typing but it's still okay to traveling. It could be a lot worse but we don't want that. The San Diego has finished their three quarter day trip on Monday with 2 Bluefin Tuna (30-40lbs) and 5 Yellowfin Tuna.

The San Diego will be fishing OFFSHORE through FRIDAY 6/17. These trips are limited to 45 people and reservations are required!  Recommended tackle for these trips is a MINIMUM of 50# monofilament for the big Bluefin! Live bait and poppers have been working well.

The El Gato Dos returned from a 3/4 day trip on Sunday with 1 Bluefin Tuna (124lbs) and 1 Yellowfin Tuna.

"Here it is 10:30 in the morning and we already have 16 Yellowtail on the boat," said on an enthused Captain Ryan. He went on, "They seem to be biting a little bit here today. We're having a nice stop, we just gaffed one. Fly line baits are once again the way to go. 25 lb. test is what you should use. We've been seeing these fish down here, some of them bite, some do not. We've had a good shot at them this morning. We have 16 on the boat with 30 anglers. So it's a relatively light load for what we have been carrying. We've had some loads on here the last couple of weeks. The way I look at it, it is like a restaurant. You never want to eat at a restaurant that doesn't have any people at it.

"Come on down and join us. We go out every day, 5:30 AM we depart Seaforth Sportfishing. Bring a 25 lb. live bait rod, bring a 40 lb. rod to Yo-Yo with and you will be all geared up. This fish are right in the 20 lb. class, some bigger, some smaller. Have a good day, I'll check back later with a final report."

Nicer weather= nicer fishing ! The underwater binoculars had us stopping regularly on 12-20 lb yellowtail. Yo-yo jigs on 40 & 50 lb was the hot setup.
