barkley Fishing Report 2024

Again another scratch fishing day with the usual mix of yellowtail, yellowfin, bluefin, albacore and dorado. No big numbers, we just scratched away. We spent the morning in the tuna area and mid morning to the end of the day we went looking for kelps and caught and released a lot of small dorado. The weather again has been excellent.

The most interesting thing is that everybody is getting albacore strikes anywhere they go. We are hoping the water will cool off in the next week and the albacore will start to group up and bite. Chef Jeff is still serving up some great food. An open faced steak sandwich for lunch and dinner was a superb cajun yellowtail filet and shrimp grilled with bell peppers and onions, served with fresh yellow squash, zuchinni and mushrooms and wild rice. It was really good. It looks like Alijos and the Ridge are starting off good. The crew and I are anxious to get down on a longer trip for some of those bigger yellowfin and wahoo. We still have a couple open spots on our 9-day departing August 28. And if your looking more into the future, Larry Brown still has some openings on his 10 day on October 25th. So come out and join me and the crew.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're just rollin' out of our 2nd stop. We picked up 25 Bluefin & we still have a couple of fish hang'n. We also caught a half dozen Skipjack, 6 or 7 Dorado here for the morning. We are seeing a very, very good sign of tuna. I know there are a couple guys here who have done very well. We're talking over 100 fish for the morning, with some Yellowfin tuna as well. We'll keep you posted."

Good evening from the Polaris Supreme bridge. Today was our first full day of travel. We still have this big swell following us down the line, but it's not doing us any harm.  We're rolling down swell with it, so it's not a real big deal.  I wouldn't mind it being a few degrees warmer, but it is the middle of February.  Everyone got to sleep in a little bit and have a nice breakfast at 0800.  The crew gave a wahoo seminar mid morning the get the guys tuned up on catching some "skinnies".  It's nothing new to the OTR guys,  but a little refresher course never hurts.  They got right into making their leaders, rigging wahoo bombs and so forth. Certainly helps break up a travel day.  Chef Mike and Gringo put out a real nice Chicken and artichoke penne pasta with pesto sauce and garlic bread for lunch. That dish always makes for a nice nap afterward.      

                The rest of the afternoon was just a bunch of catching up with old friends, eating more food as we always do on these trips and the crew doing a few chores before dinner.  Just another standard travel day here on the Polaris Supreme. Till tomorrow, this is the Supreme boys out.

Good morning everyone, Just finished off loading our bounty from our beck five day charter, and man what a trip! I would like to thank Joe Beck for again putting together another successful trip. Year after year we always look forward to taking you guys out! Today we depart on our Sadie Hawkins 3 day trip. A great 3 day filled with many great fisherman and lady anglers. We just cleared the point and are excited to get fishing! Will report tonight, Team Supreme

Good morning everyone, Today we had some good yellowtail fishing. A lot of fish around, but pretty hard to catch. Random flurries through out the day made it possible for us to be able to piece together a nice day. The fish were boiling up around the boat pretty good, but did not bite as good as we would have imagined. They must be on krill or red crab or something. Whatever they are keyed in on it is not what we have.....yet. We will give it the day tomorrow, wish us luck, Team supreme

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late tonight with an update from their most recent trip to the Coronado Islands. We have been fishing in shallow water and it is creating a high causality rate. The majority of our fish have been caught on a fly lined bait. We recommend a short top shot of Blackwater Fluro. We are also catching some fish on Yo Yo irons and Surface Irons too. The majority of the fish are in the 20 to 25 pound class but today we did catch a few 10 pounders. Hi friends. Long time - no talk. We've decided to update everybody on our annual maintenance season to begin our 2012 season. We hauled the boat out at Knight and Carver Yacht Center and immediately dove into our projects that should take us the next three weeks to complete. Painting the outside/inside of the boat, refinishing the rails, and repainting the deck are just a few of the cosmetic projects on our list along with numerous mechanical projects to ensure that the Polaris Supreme not only looks good but operates at tip-top performance. This time of the year is always bittersweet. It's nice to maintain the boat and get her looking good for the up-coming season but it's also terrible to see a boat like this. The boat is unrecognizable, she sits on blocks, dirt and paint dust everywhere, grease, mud, and tools lying everywhere and it's hard to believe that she'll look like a brand new boat in a few weeks. But somehow, it happens and we hope that everyone will appreciate the hours we put into keeping the vessel looking good and running smoothly for you.

Anyhow, we'll report back to you daily and every few days or so, we'll send some photos along so that you can see what Tommy, Drew, Jed, Mark, Tommie (new guy) and myself are up to on the boat. Hopefully, I'll be able to type after twelve hours of sanding and grinding. Take care everyone.
