April 15, 2025 bagnell dam Fishing Report
1326Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this evening with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. Today we had 23 passengers catch 27 California Yellowtail, 55 Barracuda and 1 bonito. Very good mixed bag fishing. This is a good opportunity to fish on an uncrowded boat and also enjoy good fishing.April 14, 2025 bagnell dam Fishing Report
1774Ryan Bostian called in to give this report for the San Diego. "Today was our 1st Day at the Coronado Islands, after spending a month offsore. Today we went down to the Islands with 24 anglers and we're coming back to the dock with 32 Yellowtail. The Yellowtail we caught ran from 12 to 25 lbs. There are enough big ones in the mix to keep it interesting for sure. We caught fish on all 3 techniques today; flyline-sardine, surface iron and yo-yo lures. So if you are going fishing with us I'd bring three rods for the local Yellowtail fishing. Fly line sardine with a 25 or 30 lb. was probably the best way to get a bite. However, we did have plenty of fish on the lures.
"Com on down and see us, we leave the dock everyday at 5:30 AM. We'll be fishing these Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands as long as the fish are here. We saw some big beautiful schools today. Hopefully they stick around. We'll check back in again tomorrow.April 13, 2025 bagnell dam Fishing Report

Once again, today we had a good day. We started our day off fishing bait. Wide darn open on the small greenies. I was singing the Who song "rain on me" because it was raining bait. It didn't take long to get what we needed for the day and we headed off to the bluefin grounds which is right there. We had one OK stop but right before lunch was our good one. I remember because I ordered my lunch when we didn't have anything going and when I walked outside we had 4 going. I can power down a meal pretty fast though and that's what I did. We were able to drift with that school for hours before it stopped biting. We had a couple per round of those 30-40 pounders. I call those the perfect grade. They are manageable, meaning they're fairly easy to bring to the boat while at the same time when you do you always end with a smile because they're big. The perfect grade. After they stopped biting say around 5:00, we looked for another school unsuccessfully for an hour so we ran back to the bait grounds and had a little start on our re-bait. We'll finish in the morning. Having this perfect bait right next to the fishing grounds is the most special thing about this area. It's more special than the beautiful bluefin we're catching. Sometimes where you caught your bait is more important than where you caught your fish. No bait, no luck.

Good evening folks from the bridge of the Polaris Supreme. Let me just start off by telling you how beautiful of a night it is out here. First of all the ocean is flat calm. Just a super light breeze and no sea. It's almost like we're in the bay right now. The moon is full, huge and bright as can be and it's lighting up the night. We left today on an Eric Rogger 5 day charter. I think it's in the 30's on number of consecutive years he's been doing this one so our hat goes off to him. Owner/operator Tommy is back on board so I'll be running as second captain this trip. I think the sardines grew about 90 percent in length and weight since the last time we got bait 3 days ago. They're lunkers. They'll make great yellowtail bait and I'll bet the bluefin will dig them, we'll have to see about them yellowfin.
I guess you can tell by my questioning of the last paragraph that we didn't get in them this afternoon. The darn fish just moved too far away for us to reach on our departure day today. We got there minutes late but there was some pretty darn good hits this evening so we're excited about tomorrow.
