al Fishing Report 2024

Capt Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute with a fantastic on the water report for today, so far we have limits of some really nice grade Dorado and a couple Yellowtail. The Dorado were in mid to high 20 lb range, we then started searching for tuna and decided to put out some Wahoo jigs and we did manage to get a couple nice 50 lb plus Wahoo for out efforts. What's good, people. There are two kinds of Sinclairs in this world, Upton and Matthew. We had both today. Our fishing was Upton Sinclair-style, real good, and we have Matthew Sinclair and his mustache to help us on deck this trip. We caught all of the major species today and we even got our bronze on. First of the season! You farmers and your tans were no match for the Baja sun that we soaked up today. It was hot and flat out here, check the pictures if you don't believe me. Polaris Supreme. Come to think of it, ever since I took my shirt off, the fish wouldn't stop jumping into the boat until I buttoned her back up at days end. Ouch. Anyhow, awesome fishing at the Ridge today and just when we thought it was all said and done, Tommy "Black Eyes" Miles found a kelp at five miles that kicked out all the flatheads we could handle. Never underestimate the blackhawk and his powerful vision. Oh yeah baby, I done told y'all once to get on our level and I don't like to repeat myself. Ronny and the boys are so pumped right now. Big yellowfin, big bluefin, small yellowfin, small bluefin, big dorado, small dorado, big yellowtail, and small yellowtail. Oh yeah, we even hooked a really nice striped marlin today too. Abbey Wombat (the U.S. womens soccer star) couldn't be more proud of us right now. God Bless America.

So what's the plan for tomorrow? I don't know, I'm just a deckhand but I'll ask the skipper ... skipper says it's a secret. Intriguing. We'll report back tomorrow.

Steady stop and go action on school grade yellowfin. 59 yellowfin tuna 1 yellowtail. Private charter tomorrow tomorrow then back to open party on Monday.

Beautiful weather and good fishing. 19 yellowtail 145 calico bass 17 barracuda 23 whitefish 5 sheepshead.

Aug. 22

A slow day on the Polaris Supreme today. My honey hole wasn't so much a honey hole. We had a couple stops the first half a day for some nice bluefin, yellows and dorado before taking off to what I hope tomorrow is the promise land. An example of how big the ocean is, one hour after leaving the area a code boat found a dandy school and gave me the position. Upon further investigation I noticed it was 1 mile from my earlier track line. It didn't bite for him. Now I always want my fellow boats to do well out here but you know deep down inside I was a little relieved to here that.

The weather out here is still fabulous and tomorrow is going to be a day full of bent rods, hooting and hollering and a boat full of tired people. I can feel it.

 I can't think of a cool way to start this report so I'm just going to say what I feel.  This morning was making me a little nervous.  I thought that our timing was going to be off this trip.  I knew the fish weren't even close to being done for the year but for a couple of days I thought perhaps.  I was wrong.
 This morning we got our fish on.  We were catching plenty.  We started with a couple quicky stops and then had one good one.  The only deal was the fish were on the small side of things.  12 pounders, few smaller, couple bigger.  We were fishing them because at the time, we don't know that we'll find the better grade.  What if we drive away and we never find the bigger ones or another one period?  Anyways, it dried up and we went looking again.  We all got stuffed from lunch and right when we were feeling that it's either nap time or get a pot of coffee brewing we found what we were looking for and we drifted until the day was done.
 It was as good as we ever need fishing to be.  "One stop shop" if you will.  Bent rods all day and constant fish in the pit.  The pit is where the fish is dragged back to get spiked, bled, and tagged before going down into refrigeration until the end of the trip.  It's the busiest place on the boat during a good bite.  We even had a passenger in the pit today helping out when he thought he had his limit.  When I told him we were in American waters and California fish limit regulations apply he was back at the rail catching yellowfin.  We had a good day.
 The weather for the trip is so far so good.  We're going to make a move tonight and look for that bluefin we were catching last trip.
