Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-28-2016 We finished up our trip today with some scratch yellowtail fishing all morning and then an afternoon of rock cod fishing, all in all a very successful day and trip. Thank you very much Mark Costello and fellow anglers for making it so. Were heading up in some beautiful weather and looking forward to our next group with Tom Chaparro and his limited load of only 18 anglers.We still have openings on our four-day trip after Tom's five day if you would like to come out fishing with us! We are hearing signs of yellowfin tuna that actually wants to bite. We are excited to give it a try here on Tom's trip. And no Mark Castillo group it's not the local stuff! Ryan Bostian checked in from “The San Diego” this afternoon with an update from Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. The Bluefin Tuna are 20 to 120 pounds. Please make sure you are prepared. The Yellowtail are 5 to 10 pounds. Please bring one light rod and one heavy rod. A light rod would be 25 pound or 30 pound test. A heavy rod should be nothing less than 40 pound outfit a 50 or 60 would be better. The Bluefin are biting on a flat fall jig. A perfect out fit for he flat fall jig would be a Talica 12 filled up with 65 pound spectra with a short top shot of 80 pound fluorocarbon. Today we had Captain Cameron running the boat. He had a very respectable day offshore in a crowded ocean. FISH COUNT: 56 anglers caught 2 Bluefin Tuna and 52 Yellowtail.

Once again we stopped on enough fish to fill up our fish hold 10 times. Unfortunately we only had 1 brief moment of biting fish. 2 bluefin tuna (40-50 lbs) 11 yellowfin tuna. Hopefully these fish get out of their funk soon.

It started out great and got better and better. The whole boat went bendo kelp after kelp and the kelps weren't to far between. I'd say we could have done better on the hoo. We lost alot more than we landed. The anglers were pulling the tricks out of their sleeves seeing what cool ways they could get bites. Hookless jigs, taquitos etc. We couldn't ask for better weather. It is unbeatable. We're headed up north to finish the trip with some yellowtail fishing.

Tommy Rothery brought his Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 17 after the best five-day trip to Guadalupe Island so far this year. Rothery's anglers had an excellent catch of larger yellowfin from the big island, and a couple of wahoo. The luckiest angler on the Eric Rogger trip may heave been Dean Hendrickson of Chatsworth, who got a non-eligible (assist from a deckhand) 110-pound tuna on a sardine and 40-pound line, and a 47-pound wahoo, on a black and purple small Marauder. Phil Bruce of Ramona won first place, for a 105-pound yellowfin. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 40-pound P-Line and 40-pound fluorocarbon leader, a Cal Sheets-treated Penn 12 T reel and a Seeker 660 rod. Supreme regular Dietmar Kruger of Santa Monica was second, for an 87-pounder he got on 40-pound line, and Alex Rogger of Steamboat Springs, CO won third place, for a 79.2-pound yellowfin tuna. Stephan Kruger of Venice Beach took the trip's best yellowtail, a 39-pound mossback, on the kite with a squid for bait. "He hit it like a massive tuna," said Kruger, "there was a huge explosion in the water under the kite."

The San Diego would like to thank everyone for a Great Year! We had very good fishing for a variety of species including: Yellowtail, Bluefin Tuna, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and more. We are hauling out tomorrow and will be doing maintenance for a couple weeks in the dry dock. We will then finish up at the dock at Seaforth. We will most likely run a few trips during Christmas Holiday and we anticipate being online next year for Winter Yellowtail fishing. Thanks again!!!!

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We found a kelp paddy right at grey light this morning. So far we have about 35 Yellowtail and 2 Dorado so far. We'll keep you posted as the day progresses."

19 yellowtail 88 red rockcod 35 rockfish 1 halibut. The daily game of hide and seek we play with winter yellowtail is something we are very familiar with on the San Diego. Today we busted them in an area they have used many times in the past. Sunday and Monday have been cancelled due to weather. Tuesday will be our next available trip. 619-224-3383 for reservations.
