Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-18-2016 Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. Today was another gorgeous travel day into the lower latitudes. The weather just just about picture perfect all day long. As normal on these longer trips, Mike prepares a little bit of a later breakfast and shortly after the crew puts on our detailed fishing tackle seminar. There is a lot to go over to get the guys tuned up on the wide variety for fishing we might encounter. Being that there's so many different things we might see, we can't leave any stone unturned, especially for the guys that either haven't been on the Supreme or just haven't been on a longer trip at all. It's very important we have everyone dialed in and on the same page. The rest of the day was rather casual, a lot of rigging, crimping leaders, setting up jigs and just making sure all of the gear is fine tuned,. Once we got everyone tuned up the afternoon closed out with movies, naps reading books and just enjoying a nice ride down. Tomorrow we'll start off with some offshore style fishing and continue to make our plan for the rest of the trip. 22 yellowfin 3 bluefin(2 over 100lbs). Always a good idea to have a rod to fish 40-60lb line, never know what we might encounter.

Hello everyone, Day one was rather uneventful after checking out the yellowfin tuna grounds. We were able to scratch away at a couple fish on jig strikes and porpoise schools, but it wasn't the big hit we were hoping for. These fish are very finicky, and aren't sticking with the boat like we need them to.With a plethora of other sport boats in the area, these fish have been getting hit pretty hard recently. Today was a slow day on the ocean if you were a sport boat. It definitely wasn't a float day. Most of the day for us was spent in fish mode and not catch mode. A lot of hunting with the occasional onesie or twosie on yellowfin jig strikes. We did find one kelp among many that had a good school of a good grade yellowtail on it that wouldn't bite. We caught half a dozen or so but we should of had many many more judging by how many were on it. We also bumped into a school of yellowfin that charged the boat and looked very eager but the darn things wouldn't bite a bait with a hook in it. Not the day for biting fish. Too bad.

 

The weather was for the most part OK. A little windy and choppy in the morning and the same thing in the evening but the stretch in between was nice. We're headed back to the dock and we'll be heading back out tomorrow on a 5 day. I hope things change and guess what? They always do. It's the one thing you can bet on in the fishing world.

~~Sept. 3
        I slept in this morning.  Travel day.  I awoke at 5:00 and went straight to the
computer to see if we'll be bluefin fishing tomorrow or yellow-finning up.  Bluefin
it is.  10 knot flags out there all day tomorrow.  Nice.  So we didn't fish at all
today.  No reason to.  We traveled through 4 other boat wakes from yesterday and
they didn't stop the boat so we weren't going to cost us tomorrows fishing time to
try and prove them wrong.  I trust our code boats.  The weather traveling up has
been ideal all day long.  The passengers did what they do, movies, books, and
relaxation while the crew took it easy and did some chores at a reasonable pace.
We did a lot of organizing of things.  We went through crates and boxes and nuts
and washers and bolts and things like that and just made sense of it all.  The crew
even got around to detailing our beautiful teak rails.

        The bluefin reports sounded good today so we're excited about getting up there for
a couple of days to finish up the trip.  We'll either spend 2 days blue-finning or
we'll do 1 day here and go get our yellowfin on for the last day.  I'm not sure.
That's what's so exciting about it all!
I may not sleep well tonight I'm so excited.  Maybe it's because the 1.5 hour after
lunch nap I took and/or all the coffee I've drunken since then.  Not because I'm
tired, I just love coffee.  I'm kidding.  I'm sure I'll sleep fine.  I've been doing
this a long time.

        My daughter turned 5 months yesterday.  People say the time flies and they're
right.  It sure does.

Aug. 21
    Judging by how our trip has been so far, if you would have told me we would have 6 bluefin as of 1:00 this afternoon I wouldn't have believed you.  But sure enough, those darn bluefins were laughing at us.  We saw plenty of them but they didn't give two you know whats about us.  Our buddy Brian on the Spirit Of Adventure called us and told us he was seeing the 30-50 pound grade around where he was so we took a little ride down there.  It wasn't really biting that well until we got there.  Again our timing is on.  For the next few hours it was game on.  It actually took a while to get them to bite but during the best of it I couldn't get the balloon rigs out fast enough.  They were snapping!!  We ended up with a couple rounds of the 30-50 pounders with one going around 90 pounds and we also got a handful of 30-35 pound yellowfin there as well.  

    After it dried up we went looking for another.  We found several schools but none that would hang around and bite our baits.  Around 6:30 we bumped into another school that stuck and we picked up 21 more of those beauts.  And now we drift and do it again tomorrow.  

    The chefs are getting better and better at there sushi spread.  This afternoon it was terrific and I'm pretty sure I heard it's veal chops for dinner tonight.  Sweet dreams.
